Hey Guys.

My engine is making a rather annoying tapping noise, more so when the revs get higher.

I think its the tappets and searching the forum it does show the symptoms for it but my original understanding was that tappets on the Saxos as a whole are hydrolic and there for self adjusting but after searching I have seen conflicting information and believe the only the VTS are hydrolic and the rest need to be adjusted manually.

Any one able to help me with this?

Thanks in advance.

yeah, only the VTS ones are hydraulic. cam and follower wear over time creates freeplay in valve gear that is the tapping. you need to re-shim the tappets, not 100% sure how to do this but heard its an easy job

haynes is best bet, adjust tappets when engine is COLD, not warm or hot. exhaust valves are .4mm clearence and inlet valves are .2mm. You will need a feeler guage to set them up. Have a search for a guide if don't have a haynes but it is quite straight forward if you take tyour time with it.

Richy I got a Haynes but looking in the index at the back its says 2A-14 but that says about VTS Hydrolic tappets. Can you quote where in the manual it says.

Just need to buy a feeler gauge, wont cost you more than a fiver from a motorfactors or tool shop. Its no where near as daunting as it sounds :).
