Insurance section? If not, I don't see what you are getting at? They are out to make a profit after all, nout wrong with that. If young people want fast cars, then sure they should pay big, there are a few crash threads on here, and yeah the money you pay probably lines their pockets and goes towards pay outs for countless other drivers. Would you prefer they run at a loss/break even? Would you run at a loss/break even? Can't be all gravy, look at Quinn.

You will get cheaper car insurance later on in life, swings and roundabouts.

they are a business, they take into account age, driving habits, location, driving history, what the car is, previous claims both by you and other drivers of the same car, thefts of that car etc etc.... it may seem expensive and in some cases it is but compared to the payout that would happen if you claimed it could be deemed reasonable.
simple thing is you cant drive a car without insurance in the uk ( i can where i am as its included in the cars registration for the year), so its either put up with the cost or find a car that doesnt cost as much.

ok just saying they can make a profit but their no need to to rob if you know what i mean good example i can think of from college a friend bought a 1.0litre fiesta for 300quid charged him 1300quid tpft. if a 40 yr old man bought a ford rs say 26k and charging him 100k insurance a year they wouldnt get away with it. but how come it ok to rip off a 18 year old? you see where iam coming from

They aren't ripping the young 'uns off! It is just a hell of a lot more likely that the 18yr old will have to make a claim more than the 40yr old. At the end of the day the insurance company is taking a gamble in insuring you, they don't want to be out of pocket should you have to make a claim. So unfortunatley because the young inexperienced drivers are more at risk their premiums are much higher. At 18 it doesn't matter if you want to insure a 1 litre M reg fiesta that you wouldn't piss on if it was on fire or a Saxo VTS with all the trimmings your insurance is going to be high because the premium you're paying is basically just so the 3rd party is covered. With so many young people on the roads who just can't be bothered/ don't know how to drive properly it's inevitable that premiums will be high as they have to make the most claims, (which i do agree is unfair on people who do drive safely.) Unfortunatley though we all do get tarred with the same brush.

I dunno if it's just me but I've been fairly lucky with insurance.

My first car was a Citreon AX and I payed 1500, I was 17 on Provisional.

I then owned a Corsa and was paying 1200 a year (just passed test.)

Got an Escort at 18 (with a years no claims) paying 96 a month.

I then tried getting a Black VTS and got quoted 160 a month, was going to do it but thought not to.

I'm now 18, 1 years no claims and pay 90 a month on a 51' plate VTR with Admiral.

I'm lucky I think?

I'd say!! I'm 25, 3nbc and pay about £70 for a 51 plate VTR with admiral!! I can't wait until renewal!
