View Full Version : Trophy or Megane F1

As most of you are aware I sold my Racing Blue 182 on Friday and am on the hunt for a new car.
2 I have in mind are
Clio 182 trophy
http://images.forum-auto.com/mesimages/358666/renault-clio-2-rs-trophy-633.jpg
Or
Megane F1
http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z215/longy79/100_0931.jpg
SO here is goes
I have already had 2 182's so does having a 3rd one make it any better. I have always had a mega soft spot for a trophy and it is one of the best "b" road blasters out there. Once again there are rare only 500 made and they seem to hold there value rather well. Not expensive to run or insure.
Then there is the Megane F1. Pure porn in my eyes. Looks awesome in blue and the Recaros to with the hint of blue. Running costs are going to be more then the trophy and once again this is a limited edition car only 150 made.
Which would you pick and why?

Megane F1......Looks awesome!!!

Definitely the Megan it is all round win compared to the Clio.

I'd take the Trophy probably as I need that damping in my life. I'd suggest you try the R26 though. You'll be extremely impressed, it's a few rungs up the performance ladder on the Clio

I prefer the original F1 Mr David.
With performance come big running costs!

I would pick the clio.
Having been in both cars, although not those spec versions, the clio is a much better and more refined car.
My megane had loads of problems with it, I mean it was an auto that stallled!!
I have also had more fun in the clio, the steering response is soo much better, the megane didnt seem to have an feel for it and I felt very out of it.
That said the megane isnt a bad car but I would take the clio over it any day of the week.

If i were you i would go for the meg mate, you have sort of done the clio thing now
jonathon5
29th April 2010, 09:13
megane does 7 mpg less & costs more to insure
Had both cars
Megane is faster, tyres cost a fortune.
Clio is not much slower

If you can afford a Megane F1 why don't you spend the extra £1,500 and buy a Megane R26 F1 that comes with Recaro's and a LSD.

GAY! if you get another Clio im going to drive to your house and kick you in your sack!!!!!
The megane easily out weighs the clio in most things. This is why i hate my clio so much and its purely because it isnt the 225 i used to have. I tell you this most days.

I'm glad you commented on this, Since this year I'll be saving money off my placement to go towards either a 182 or a R26.
Most people say to me just get a 182 you will have more fun etc.
Got my heart on a R26 F1 in blue with all the extra's. Usually go between 10k-11.5k with quite low milage.
Thanks :y:
I can understand Leeroy's idea of getting the 225 F1 Team. It's the same reason I had my eye on them, only made 500 (Got told this on MeganeSportNet), like the Clio Trophy's

A megane F1 comes with Recaro's, diff is only worth it if you track it.
Mark, Mark and going to get a trophy just to see if you follow through with your threat!
Jimbo this is true, but looking at the one you detailed, I want one lol

Bollocks Leeroy, on the road the diff allows you to get the power down so early into corners, it totally transforms the car. Seriously, drive both. I never liked the original 225 much, the R26 though...

Yeah mate this is what people were saying on MeganeSport. If he wants a 225 F1 let him get one. I just don't see the logic in buying a 225 F1 when you could spend only £1500 extra for a R26 F1 which is going to be more comfortable than the 225 F1.
Don't want to start an argument.

I can't comment on this since I've only been in a 225. People on the MeganeSport forum say however the LSD tranforms the car.
leeroybrown
29th April 2010, 09:33
500 made, it was actually 150 Aly.
I like the idea of the F1 being exclusive Camp, not many made and resale value seems rather good just like a trophy
How the fuck is it more comfortable, its basically the same bloody car with a diff, same seats, same wheels!
Aly
29th April 2010, 09:34

Ah shit your right I went back onto the forum to where I got told, guy said 150 lol
Also Leeroy. My advice, If you want to know what an R26 F1 is like, why don't you ask Anth, he drove one to the 106 Owners rolling road day.
leeroybrown
29th April 2010, 09:36
Mark, fair enough the meg maybe slightly quicker, but its no where near as fun or chuckable as the clio.

agreed, the traction control was always on in mine if it hammered it out of the corners.
leeroybrown

Aly dont you think I know what a megane is like, I have been in them!
No traction control light even on in the clio when leaving a corner!
Aly

Aly dont you think I know what a megane is like, I have been in them!
Well I know you will have been, I just think it's a bit unusual to ignore a R26 straight away when from what I hear on MeganeSportNet there a much more complete car than the 225 range.
Still though If I was to buy a 225, it would be the F1 like you said originally, in that blue they are stunning!

The Clio hasn't got anywhere near the torque of the 225.
Trust me, I've driven both and the R26 is totally different. It's also available with the stickers if you so wish

the megane all the way! i have been driving my dads r26f1 but its the in liquid yellow and that colour is just beautiful! the cars are more than worth it! for the extra size and a little more power/speed its worth it! :D
sir_dave
29th April 2010, 12:27
No LSD, no point. R26 owns both tbh.
I certainly wouldnt sell a normal 182 for a Trophy lol. Most pointless 'upgrade' ever - KV V'2 would have been considerably easier ...
Imho, the F1 Team is pointless, you might as well save some cash & buy a 225 Cup/Trophy. In fact, bugger it, just get an R26.R. :panic:

Best thing posted so far.
If I was getting a 225 I'd get the facelifted model budget around the £7k mark for a nice. Probably in the colour Mark had his since that's the best colour for the 225 in that form.
If you've got the money get the R26.

Megane F1, they are awesome cars, my mates got one and i love it! much better than a clio imo.

Megane, not exactly sure what the ones a last years french car show had done to them (straight through i think) but they sounded like jets.

29th April 2010, 17:25
If i were you i'd go for the Megane. Simply because you've already had 2 ClioSport's.
Both look fantastic imo.
Go for the Megane, just as a change. They look the mut's nut's :D

29th April 2010, 17:26
I would choose the megane all day long. End of the day going from a 182 to a trophy wont be to much different. Yeah they are limited edition and have fancy suspension oh and recaro's but if you drive a Megane you will buy it
Gabbastard
29th April 2010, 18:12
Trophy for the suspension setup, 225 for the car as a whole.

R26 is tempting, would be October time before I could afford that sort of cash, might be worth the wait.

R26 F1/ 225 F1 would be my choice, but the trophy Isnt exactly going to dissapoint is it!!!

30th April 2010, 12:11
Leeroy, you dont drive fast so no point in having a trophy apart from to tell people down the pub i have one of the best B road cars ever produced
I honestly think you will suit a 225 f1 or r26 more, they're more grown up and you're getting old its no secret ;) just kiddin mate, well you are but Im not referring to anything else :p
I went out in my mates trophy with freshly refurbed shocks and the ride is quite hard, I wouldnt fancy having that unless it was lowered, where i'd happily sacrifice some ride quality for a nice stance
Mieran

Megane.
TU-Tuning
30th April 2010, 12:16
Meggy for me, youd be mad to get one without the diff though. Its not worth going for a special edition to be different if your loosing out on the tasty bits, plus the Megs are hardly common anyway you dont see many sports models on the road

As i mentioned to you on CS, i had a cup-packed 182 in 2005, then a 172 cup in 2007, now have a 182 Trophy in 2010. It blows the others into the water imho. I really didnt believe that it would be as good as people said - despite what all the reviews said ...
