Hey guys, last night I was out with the lads in an abandoned carpark near my house. I'm not going to lie we were messing around, but only because it was a safe open space to do so. I know it's stupid to do anyway, but lessons well and truely been learned now :(

Anyway, the thread is because I ended up hitting a gravely grass verge pretty hard after trying a J turn, so would mean my left hand side was effected.

The damage wasnt as bad as i expected, but not good none the less... The front tyre took quite a heavy blow and had quitew a bit of grass/mud/few small bits of gravel inbetween the rim and the tyre, lifting it away from the rim itself slightly. This is the same on the back left, but not as bad at all.

Though the front tyre was kind of bent inwards out of shape, almost like an inwards buldge?

Now I had the idea of letting all air out the tyre to remove all the crap from the rim, blowing back up, hey presto?

Another of the lads suggested I get the tyres taken off the alloy completely and put back on?

Either way, last night I got a knife and got out a large majority of the mud/grass/gravel bits from both tyres and this morning they seem to be sitting alot better on the rim and the buldge doesnt seem as large either... But I do know there will be one or two little bits of something in there.. This will cause a problem wont it? Blow outs etc.. or will it be okay if taken steady for a little bit?

Secondly, After driving home to drop a friend off steadily, gets there to a horrendous smell of burning brake pad :( Looked all round the car and found the back left disc was sizzeling away. We put water on it and it evaporated in a matter of milli seconds :/

but.. I have no idea, what so ever as to whats causing it.. Do you guys have any idea?
Ive got the car jacked up now and all i can see thats different from the right hand side, is somethings snapped on the inside of the brake, like next to the back box of the exhaust... I dont know what it does but it seems like a support of some sort maybe? I can get pictures to show?

Ps. If it helps, coming home after finding the brake was overheating i was driving with the window down listening... And theres a kind of patter sound, as if you had a little rubber thing on the wheel that hit the arch every time the wheel rotated? other than that i cant say anything else about it..

Any help would be hugely apreciated,
Thanks

If your tyre has any kind of deformation to it's shape, be it an egg in or out, replace it! If there's stuff between your tyre and rim, get the tyre off (you're replacing it anyway....) and get it all cleaned out.

As for the rear brake, pictures will help.

Oh THAT plate!

Were you making use of Harry Handbrake much?

Check that those two bolts are tight. the fact that the plate has snapped and the halves have spun round suggests they've been worked loose/damaged by putting mega force onto the calliper. If they're loose then your cailier won't be sitting correctly, causing the pads to rub the disc (possibly warped the disc too).

I see, i see.. the bolts seem pretty tight, like.. I cant move the broken bits of plate by hand at all... Is there a way I can take the caliper off and put it back on so its sitting correctly? That would cancel out the caliper being nocked out of place idea?

I just dont have a clue how to go about doing that!

Edit, sorry, handbrake was used quite a bit that day, but not when that accident happened. Also, ive just looked and theres two other large bolts that i imagine hold the caliper on? haha, sorry Im such a noob :(

Yeah those two big bolts hold the calliper on. Whip them out and slide off the calliper (make sure the handbrake's off...), pop the pads out and see if they're damaged, make sure the sliders allow the calliper half to move around etc, then refit and tighten the bolts back down and see if that sorts it.
