I checked my springs today as my car was sitting a bit high. I took the suspension arm off my Punto and checked the springs with a spring clamp.

I twirled around the top mount to see if it was ok, it was. Put the springs back and put it back on the car.

One side sits lower then the other, and this side also bangs when you go over bumps. I've checked the mounts and they are all ok.

Ideas?

could be a worn spring on one side, or did you check the coil's for damage?

Did you seat the high side spring properly on the spring pan?

Coils are fine. I applied copper slip into the base where the bottom coil sits, to eliminate any problems. I also wired brushed it to get the loose bits of dirt off.

Yes, i did.

It was fine before i compressed the springs.

Unless i give it a few days for it to settle and see how it is?

Nope. I've double checked. Once when everything was tight, then went for a drive to settle the springs back down and pulled over and checked again.

I think it could be the rubber that sits just above the top mount. I'll give it another few days to settle, if not it'll all have to come off again and inspect the rubber.
