I have a built in aux socket in my centre console which I can plug in an ipod and listen it will play through my car speakers but I can only select songs etc using the ipod, not the music controls I have on my dashboard.

Is this due to my system not being compatible or is it impossible to control an ipod through an aux socket?

thanks

an aux socket only has 2 connections (left audio and right audio)

it cannot recieve commands back, and even if the cable could, the manufacturer would need to build a compatible driver for each plugin device

in short IT IS IMPOSSIBLE

Possibly, my HU is a Pioneer and you can get a cable which is USB at one end and the small but wide iPod connect at the other. So you can plug into the HU and use the HU to control the iPod. Its about £15 off ebay.

It depends on the make of the hu on ebay you can get a high speed ipod cable which allows you to connect yhe ipod and you can also control the songs through the headunit

It is down to the headunit to support this function, And if it does it will be through some sort of data connection (USB probably) not the AUX audio connection.

you needed to get one with a USB adapter on it to choose the songs from your head unit man

if police see you using a ipod/iphone while driving even to just change tracks then you could be done for it while chances are they wouldnt bother if they saw you using a car hu
