Tbh the price of r888s has increased a huge amount.
They are that expensive now, that I'd look to run normal tyres on the road and slicks on the track.
R888s are too expensive to be pootling about the town with + you'll never really feel their benefit on the road massively.

R1R's arent technically a semi-slick, theyre designed as with the AD08's to meet the forthcomming UK road legislation banning semi slicks
theyre the r888 medium compound in essence, with stiff sidewalls and tread pattern good for both wet and dry roads
Yoko A048's are said to be far better than r888s (which are hugely overpriced these days)
every review i've read suggests that the khumo V70a's are the tyre to have. as grippy as both, stiffer sidewalls than 888's and last a hell of a lot longer
of course, theres a lot of other choices out there, most harder to find in the UK than the well known ones,
just remember, your going to be paying around £400 for a set of tyres that will need replacing far more often than normal tyres, so either be prepared to have your wallet raped, or get a second set of dedicated track wheels
something also worth noting is that semi-slicks must be at optimum temp to perform properly, something that isnt easy to achieve on the roads, so the question is: Are semi-slicks worth it when your just pottering about on the road? answer, nope
if on more of a budget, take a look at the hankook RS2, all the ek9 / dc2 boys love them, uber grippy, stiff sidewalls, good in all weather, and last pretty long - all for £55 a corner (195 / 50 / 15)

just another point, i dont think R1R's are worth the price tag
i got them at a fraction of the cost which swayed my choice (1st saxo owner with a set i beleive lol)
Some track day organisers won't let let you out with slicks even treaded slicks without suitable roll over protection. I assume when the likes of 888 ect get banned from road use they to will enforce that they won't be allowd on track without a cage
which will hopefully mean that because they in less of a demand because people don't want two sets of wheels blah blah the price will come down.

Didn't know about that. Good to know. I could be out there on semi slicks and give some vts boys hassle in the corners;)

Tracks are on private land though. which arent governed by public road legislation, and thus it's impossible to make assumptions on what rules track day organisers might bring in...
the likes of the AD08 and R1R are designed to meet new legislation rules (from what ive read) hence the added water channels. and theyre not a great deal behind semi slicks in terms of performance. they are however pretty pointless just as a road tyre imo. theyre effectivly motorsport tyres that have been labled as high performance road tyres in order not to fall into the category of a semi slick
I can't see tracks banning semi-slicks. if anything it'll push up the demand for people to have a second set of wheels (although, demand for actual tyres may well decrease due to them not used on the road at all)

Hankooks ftw! I've got a set on my car (not sure which model, nothing great) and there spot on.
I've got a road legal semi right now...

to be honest I think they are a waste of time on the road. I've used them, killed them in 4000 miles and enjoyed the cornering capabilities, but in hindsight you realise that you dont corner that much faster than on road tyres, and you cannot push their traction levels safely.
Save them for the track where they excel.

The thaught of this depresses me. I've got a set of R888's in the garage with just one day under their belt. If they're banned on uncaged cars before I get to run them round Oulton I'll cry...
