A perfect vacuum is impossible to obtain so you would never get the theoretical lift.

I assume he is a fireman? by the questions he is asking?

I've had similar situations with gauges during instrumentation work. People expecting their calibrations to be zero when they're forgetting that there is atmospheric present. And then asking why their result don't show -1 bar during vacuum circumstances.


Because a perfect vacuum is impossible!! Anything with a perfect vacuum would collapse on itself and fuck knows what else would happen. lol

4 lenghts of hard suction at a length of 2.5m so theoretical lift is 10m.

Practicable lift is 8m because you are raising water, every meter you raise you encounter frictional and gravitational resistance of 0.2m per meter raised.

4*2.5m = 10m
10m*0.2 = 2m
10m-2m = 8m

So although you have 10m of hard suction, frictional and gravitational resistance takes effect so you can only practicably lift 8m.
