Last night i was a police observer for the night becuase im trying to join the police. Let me tell you, it was amazing!. First thing we did was get called to a shop break in and he turned the blues and twos on a fucking bombed it down shirley high street in southampton and launched aorund corners lol. It was so cool. I think people view the police in a bad light. They are all proper sound guys just doing there jobs. I tell you what though if you want an experience go down your local station and book in a observer night on a weekend! fucking ace is all i can say, cant wait to get my application form in.

I tried to do that at my local police station but was told they couldnt do it due to insurance etc :(
I may go ask again. I am considering joining up.

Is this a blag? Have never heard of this and would expect the insurance costs to be astronomical to cover this sort of thing for starters.

I was told they used to do it but due to insurance costs and things stopped it.

Some police forces let people do it,but I don't think they let you do it more than once? If you enjoyed it that much why don't you join the specials? Then you do that type of stuff every shift and can actually get involved.

No not at all mate, alot of Police Forces do it now. It was originally implemented for local MP's etc to go out with the Police for a day to see the sort of work they do.
I did one with Herts Police a couple of months ago. I agree, it was great fun. A typical 3pm til gone midnight shift. Shouts ranged from domestics, to a suicidal man in the area of a high bridge. (obviously someone had spotted him)
Last job of the day kept us occupied for hours. Drugs found on DP, so house searched. Paperwork took ages.
I'm currently looking into doing one with RPU in Herts once they get their arses in gear at their new base.
I will get in at some point when one of the local forces opens up recruitment again!

Theres no obligation mate. It really is for people who are interested in joining to gain some knowledge into the typical day of a police officer, but defintely nothing saying you HAVE to apply after lol.

Right, all you have to do is go to your local police station and they literally will make you sign a form that basicclly says. You are under you own esteem anything that happens to you is nothing to do with the police. There will be dangerous calls and if you feel unsafe run away *actual words they used lol* It was so good fun and i reccomend it to anyone. Police are all dudes just like anyone else and they get so much stick which they shouldnt get just for doing a very hard job.

Might have to look into this. I was interested in joining after college, but heard it was near impossible to join straight up at 18. I guess it would be something good to put on the application when I apply in a few years time :y:

Needs to stop.... All this paper work is just keeping the police from actually doing their work, Pisses me off.

All part of the job really.
What they do need though, is more officers. But government spending cuts seem to have stopped that for a while!

I did this for one night when I left school.
Was in the car with 2 other coppers. A call came in regarding shots being fired in a rough neighbourhood. We go there and one of them throws me a gun and asks if I can cover them!
Was shitting myself that night. I just hung around the car keeping a lookout.
