View Full Version : The how much you can get out of one tank thread
Hi guys and girls of saxp I'm going to be carrying out a test over the next week or 2 weeks to see how many miles you can get out of a tank.
So every day near enough (its me remember) I will post the kind of driving I have been doing and a picture of my clocks.
So here is the shitbox I will be using
http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae70/robertlittler123/MPG%20test/09052010047.jpg
1.1 eastcoast 1999 (54bhp apparently)
And here are my clocks for todays driving.
http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae70/robertlittler123/MPG%20test/09052010050.jpg
Mostly been eco driving but did have to overtake a couple of learners doing 20 in a 40 zone.
Bit of a pointless thread but hey it will show you what you can get out of a 1.1 saxo if you really try now that times are hard etc.

Put in a full tank 1 1/2 months ago. Still got a quarter left...
Out of a 1.1 ? Did 600 miles once without touching the reserve. Otherwise, it's as bad as your left foot is heavy.

I got just less than 400 miles for a full tank
Saxo VTR mk2
Mostly town driving
Mines pretty rubbish really. Driving quite economically I can expect 40mpg. Although that was with 30 stones worth of people in the car so its swings and roundabouts.
Also after a quarter of a tank, the fuel guage seems to drop towards the red at an alarming rate.

Including a 15 min track session at mallory park last weekend I got this

Look at all you lot and your flashy rev counters.:homme: I plan to fit one to my car sometime soon :)
And rob your car is the EXACT same as mine. I've got the spoiler and everything, although I'm rolling on some genuine citroen hubcaps
2 years ago I put £10 in my dads 307 2.0 HDI when the light was on. I did 150 miles until the low fuel light come on again. I thought that was a good return considering the tank can hold 68 litres.

So what would you get more mpg out of?
A 2.0 diesel HDI engine or a 1.4 petrol engine?
I used a 1.4 golf cl for the week and it was poor on fuel. But it idled very low so needed more welly to pull away lol.
