yo,
Got a vts in December and want to upgrade the rubbish standard speakers.
Is a 12inch sub necessary ? Im not looking for earth shattering bass, just something i can crank up to a reasonable volume without distorting, so was thinking a 10" would do - especially as its a small car. If a 12inch is more likely to overpower the front comps then ill just go with a 10''... What do you reckon ?
I am thinking of going with these Components:
www.caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/10632.html
and this 10'' sub package:
www.caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/11575.html
or maybe this 12'':
www.caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/1233.html
Also, I havent got the time to fit it myself... whats a reasonable rate for that to be fitted ?
and, is it worth upgrading the rear components ?
Cheers

For what your looking for jbl is good for the budget and average performance so thats good for yourself, no need for upgrading rear speakers if your getting components up front with a sub. Fitting yourself is a very easy short job so i wouldnt really reccomend to pay anyone for it :)

The bundles there say 10 gauge wiring kit so everything should be there,

Depending on what music your into determines which size to go for, i find a 10 inch gives more of a punch and is better for R&B and the 12 are more clear and precise which is better for other music like dance
The wiring kit is only a 10 gauge and tbh id go for a bigger guage at least a 8 gauge
You may be better posting a budget then buying things seperately, these bundle deals are not always cheap and sometimes you can get them cheaper buying seperate plus sometimes the sub and amps arent ideally matched on the power
As for the components, jbls are a great budget brand but like a say it all depends on the budget, are you wanting to amp these, id suggest you do you wont get the most out of them wired to the headunit and thats were a 4 channel amp will come into play ran in tri mode or there are so me more expensive amps that offer 3 channels
But get a budget up and we can work from that

Budget is £300 at the very max. I already have a headunit that will do the job (jvc). I was planning on running the comps off the head unit... Is this not recomended ?
Also I'm into drum n bass, so I guess a 12'' would be more suitable ? Like I say, I'm not looking for ridiculous bass, just something that's well rounded, with a decent response.

i would personally go for a 12" better quality for your money and youll eventually want to upgrade

In your case a ten inch would be more suited for you with the components offering a bit of bass but more treble

nice one. I like the look of those components.
is it best to mach up brands ? ie comps and sub the same brand, or does it not matter ?
also, is an amp really necessary to run the comps and tweeters ? was just going to run them off the head-unit...
