View Full Version : The choice is down to 3...

Dont know if any of you remember but I recently started a thread about my next car. The Mini's up for renewal and it will be sad to see her go :(

Well, thanks to your previous posts I have narrowed the choice down to 3 cars (please be aware that not every car in the world is available via my company car scheme, CO2 emmissions are capped at 190g/CO2/km and obviously anything rediculously expensive i'm not going to entertain)

I've got the choice down to;

1) BMW 320d Coupe, 0-60 in 7.5, 60mpg = £180/month
(thinking white with red leather interior)

2) Audi TT 2.0TFSi, 0.60 in 6.1, 44mpg = £175/month
(again, white with red leather)

3) Seat Leon Cupra, 0.60 in 6.3, 36mpg = £110/month
(kiwi green with white wheels!)

I'm tempted with the Leon because of the cheapness of it, but the mpg is putting me off slightly, as well as the dodgy handling. The TT is my favourite, albeit a bit small. And finally the beemer is by far the most economical (I claim per business mile), but a bit of a slouch, and when i come up behind people on the motorway then instantly think "cock".

Please dont suggest any other vehicles, belive me i've scoured the list and this is the best of a bad bunch.

I've got test drives booked in all 3 so will be reporting back what I think of them when they arrive.

So... Which would you choose? 1, 2 or 3?

If it's the new TT, then get that. They look awesome.

TT for me. The BMW and Audi are a marque above the Seat which cuts that out imo. The new 3 series are quite bland, though the coupe is quite nice. But still TT for me.

TT, we have had a few 320d at work, you'll regret buying one of them instead of the TT, we have a GTI 2.0 FSI same engine as the TT, great car, you won't regret buying the TT :y:

Yup all cars will be brand new.

Thats the other thing whats putting me off the Seat

Pffft, diesel sports car?!!

The only other downer on the TT is the waiting list, Audi have just announced the new revised TT, waiting lists are alleged to be over 27 weeks.

You'll regret it if you don't wait though. When the 27 weeks comes around you will really regret your choice.

You said it yourself, diesel sports car. People will go 'cool you got a 3 series coupe' then when you start it up and hear the diesel noise :n:

Plus changing gear at 4k isn't exactly fun. Which is why the TT is the good choice, it has the performance and the class of car. Whereas the BMW and Seat only have only of each.

The TT will be better for 'tang imo over the Seat too.

27 weeks, or 6 months is quite long but always go for the car that you really want.

The TT will never do that MPG. If you are doing a lot of miles then the BMW.
For looks and performance id pick the leon.

Haha;

"oooh, what car do you drive?"
"a bright green Seat Leon"
"oh I know the one, my nan's got one of those, well my ermmm boyfriend is over there"

6 months is a long time, plus theyre taking the mini off me so its 6 months of driving various shite hire cars.

Couple of lads have got the A5 with the same engine in, and they often achieve 45-46mpg. I believe the published figure.

That made me lol. I'd go with the TT...best looking out of that bunch and probably best performance and handling...plus the girlies looooovvveee them.

How do Andy? Yeah I suppose, they tried to palm me off with this foriegn heap last time, Soobaaroo or something that apparently had a sexually transmitted disease, I told em not to insult me this time. ;)

Whats up with the figures on the BMW? Tbf, for a 2 tonne boat with a diesel engine in, the specs are pretty impressive. I do alot of motorway miles at work too, so it kinda makes sense, but come weekend blasts, it will be the weakest of the 3.

We'll just have to see what theyre like when I get to test drive them.
Still hinting towards the TT though, i'm not old enough for a diesel saloon, just...

Stats easily point towards the TT (if cabin space is NOT an issue).

"Unless they are driven like grannies EVERYWHERE the 2.0TFSI will not do that MPG
Mid 30's at best is the norm"

Qouted from my mate who works at vw, also backed up by a mate who has the TT.

Exactly, "has". You cant get the TT yet with the new engine in. The old 2.0 TFSI was published at 36mpg. Look at the new Golf GTi, its the same engine as in that, just tweeked slightly, its quite an impressive lump.

Nope! I'm only 5'10" and no kids! I think my laptop bag should fit in the boot.

Ahh. theres nothing WRONG with the BMW specs, but the TT is better, and you pay less a month for it!

I suppose the next factor would be fuel costs, but thats up to you to decide as I dont know how you drive and how often :)

Either way I want to drive whatever you get :P

alot of people like the Seat.......... Very Good car but doesn't have the same appeal as an audi IMO or in girls opinion haha as my GF told me when i said i might buy an A4 or Seat leon she was havin nothin to do with the seat haha.

I think the TTs are abit feminie tbh i would get a White A3 with red leather and black wheels or an A4 in similar colours ;) I did vote TT though :)

It is, and in green with the white wheels it does look proper old skool. Such a shame it handles like a barge and theres no feel through the wheel (based on a TDi) Will just have to wait til I test drive one to get a proper opinion.

An A3 with the same engine would cost me less than a TT, just the handling on the new TT is immense, hence why I disreguarded the A3 from my choices.

Still awaiting the phonecall from Inchcape regarding when i'll be test driving all 3 :(

Thanks for the opinions guys and gals.

BM - Cake and Eat It, had all 3 cars in slightly different variants...

BM stupidly quick and relaible, lot's of people out there still don't realise how quick the diesels are (see BMW 123d)...Interiors not as nice as the Audi.

Audi best car to be inside, not as quick or dynamic as their german counterparts on all the sports/performance models.

Seat - Buy a Golf for better kudos and residuals.

I voted 320d, it's not exactly a slouch, and it will be comfy, which I understand is important to you for work?
