the other day was driving and after about 20 mins the engine temp had rose to about 3/4 and was still rising, after staying just short of the line at the top for a few seconds it dropped straight to half way.... short journeys it seems to be ok... or doesnt raise any more then 3/4 of the way... but as soon as i start going faster or longer it will raise and drop again.... just to top it off today it rose to 3/4 then droped to 1/4 in a matter of seconds :S had a mate with a 106 tell me its ether my head or my thermostat ???
before anybody suggest head gasket, theres no mayonaise around the filler cap, no water in the oil, no smoke from the exhaust and no water on the inside of the car ( thinking could be heater matrix?)

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP.... Seems To Be Problem After Problem :wall:

called an old french engine lol, mines the same.. don't worry.
could fit a lower temp thermostat though.

If you read any manual anything in between overheating and cold is normal running temps, some engines to just run hotter, my HG has been done twice now with 2 head skims, fair bit more temp etc.

Could be an air lock. Have you tried bleeding it? I would maybe try that first as it won't cost you anything and could fix it?
