Was just fiddling about in my engine bay and came across something i've not seen before. in line with the steering wheel at the top towards to windscreen there was an average dust cap (that are found on wheels etc) attached to a pipe curling up and down. i unscrewed the cap and a brown dirty liquid sprayed up in the air easily about 4 ft went everywhere. what was it? have i done any damage to the car???

PLEASE HELP QUICK!!

To be safe then, you'll need to bleed the coolant system and re-fill it.

just top up the coolent..then ther shud be a bleed valve on the side of the radiator..open valve until all air is out and spitting out water again.. :) simples

Depending just how brown and dirty it might be a good idea to flush through your cooling system. Pretty simple job to do yourself... found a walk through here (http://autorepair.about.com/od/regularmaintenance/ss/coolant_flush.htm)
