Think its about time i got a progress thread going for the new car, not much happening for the minute partly because i wont be putting it on the road till the 28th may, only 2 weeks away i cant wait :)

Sold the saxo a while back to fund my golf addiction :p after one viewing which was a major fail i was changing my mind to mk5s until and absolute gem of a mk4 came up in rotherham, so i arranged to go down on a saturday, couldn't of asked for better weather to view it and couldn't of asked for a better condition car.

Mk4 golf r32 in deep pearl blue (my favourite colour on these) 36k on the clock and he only wanted 11500, only problem it needed two front tyres in which i got him down to 11300, i would not of been bothered as i would of payed more than the asking price. Drive home was awesome, smile on my face said it all.

V5 came and with my plate on retention i sent it right back out within an hour of receiving the new logbook lol

Road angel hard wired in, matches the interior nicely and prefer it were it is rather than stuck in the middle of the dash

Had a little scare the other day, i had it running and decided to try the maf sensor test by disconnecting it to see if it was worse or better without it, got back in the car and the EPC and ESP lights were on, nothing a little bit of disconnecting the battery for ten minutes didn't solve phewww :p

Car is standard apart from a pipercross induction

Anyway near future plans are

2 new front pilot sports (will be done the day im insured)
Kw variant 2s and adjustable tie bars
Pioneer avic f310bt double din headunit
Armrest to make an ipod holder inside of
Good detail with a full machine polish done by me ;)
Polo aero rear wiper
Cruise control
Rosstech/vag-com
Milltek cat back exhaust

Hopefully ill get all that done this year then wish list for late this year going into next year

BBS CH's although i do like standards
Haldex controller
Poly bush it up

If i have the money or if i haven't got a baby and a house then im thinking supercharger :)

In the meantime she eagerly awaits to be on the road

Looks fantastic. A mate has a boggo 1.4 3 door in red and yours looks like a totally different car especially the interior.

28th as thats when my insurance on the other car is up and i can use my no claims on it, they wanted far too much for a month so id rather just of waited mate ;)

Yeah mate all the wiring is there , basically plug and play just need the stalk and a bit of wiring that you get with the kit, im getting that from VW teeside though but i need a vagcom to activate it on the ECU, plenty of people about theres a list on the R32oc with people that have one but id like to buy one for myself as you can do all sorts with them

Its basically a diagnostics cable and software, but doesnt just do scanning for errors it will get rid of warning lights, activate the cruise, it can be programmed to do the dial sweep like this which is snazzy and i just need it in my life lol

Hi you told me to pm you about polishing. Heard its a good thing to. And tbh the only scratches are the fine ones you see after waxing. There isa dent and scratch but thats getting sorted, but also some little dents need poping out. But would love it doing cos with it turning summer would look real good.

Charge 20 an hour mate, on average it takes 8 - 10 hours but depends what you want really, thats just for a paint correction

Maybe a lot but have to think pads cost about 10 quid each now, cost of polish for all 3 is about 60, the machines set me back about 250, microfibres, buy new ones everytime, cost of electric, flood lights, it all adds up mate, try a pro they will charge about 600 for a very basic one ;)

At the end of the day if i charge what i used then im not going to be making much at all, yes polish might last about 8 cars and the pads about 2 or 3 but machine polishing isnt cheap

Im in durham mate, well think ive done about 15 - 20 cars up to now using the rotary and pc so quite experienced i would say ;)

just let me know when, think ill be doing mine about 1 or 2 month before trax

Bit of an update

Car is now on the road and loving it, ill give her a quick clean tomorrow and then get some pictures

But i love it to bits totally different car even in the wet with ESP flashing like mad, im not brave enought to turn it off yet :p

Just a little update

Got the new michelin pilot sports on today and the car has majorly improved so a 240 pound well spent

Insurance could be refunding me after not putting my NCB on the policy so should reclaim a few hundred back :D

And best till last i should be getting my VAG-COM Hex + Can USB by next week so cant wait to have a bit of play with that, probablies check it once a week to keep things sweet

In the meantime im just really enjoying the car apart from it needing a good machine polish which should be done in august when im off for a week, i do have OCD when it comes to cleaning though :p

In the end parts for bmw were outrageous so put me off, maybe as a next car but i fanncy something turbo'd next, evo or 911

But think ill end up with a house before that

As for using a vagcom, i dont but you get a user manual and im good with stuff like that anyway so shouldnt be a problem, doesnt look too complicted looking at videos etc

But anyway rs and focus, you really need to go and test drive them both but you will be blown away by the noise the R32 makes, even as standard it sounds evil one of the biggest things that made me want one, ever since they came out though i have liked them, plus with the golf R (R20) being a 2 litre the mk4s seem to be going up in price as it may start to become a rare car, i doubt it though lol

If you do go for one ill answer any questions and what you should look out for when buying one

All i wanted in a unit but had to be double din

Bargain off ebay, hardly even used, and by the pictures it looks brand new so very happy and 300 well spent

practically can tell you anything you want to know about these think hes spent not far of 27k on the bloody thing. stage 4 vf supercharger currently running 550hp at the fly.

not saying your going down that route however i would suggest you get the haldex fairly soon the car handles good as it is ye? get some anti roll bars on it and the haldex and it will probably stick to the roads better than any car i know. really is a good piece of kit. schrick cams aswell with a remap thats how my old man started and it made the car much more responsive. and finally the vag com will give you plenty of hours of fun iv spent endless time in the car with that pluged in doing all sort of tests.

Haldex controller is about 700, this progress thread wont be as quick as lets say a saxo with parts costing about 5 times as much as that of a saxo so its not going to be a quick progress ;)

As for cams im ok for now mate, its only done 36k and always been took to a specialist for servicing off the previous owners, id expect my cams to be in pretty good shape and as you said schrick cams will be something im going to do but im getting all the handling sorted first

kw coilovers, adjustable rear tie bars then the arbs most likely, then some mounts for engine, heard good things about the dogbone mount being uprated so ill be doing that

Bit of an update

Headunit arrived, all wired in but need an adaptor plate which should arrive mid next week hopefully, should only be a 5 minute fitting job but ive had a play with it in the meantime and im very impressed, its made the standard speakers sound ten times better and the navigation and parrots hands free should come in handy

Today i took the corner splitters off, they were catching on the garage floor and were already scratched to hell so though id take them off, doesnt look liek they do much anyway, full panel was unscrewed (about 20 screws holding it in, VAG quality ;) )

Once off i hacksawed them off and sanded them so there neat and screwed it back on, looks so much tidier in my opinion and should be good for when the car is lowered on KWs :)

Yeah mate never actually did test drive a m3 but thing is id rather get the top notch CSL model, maybe next car if the prices are down and the mileage is low ;)

The cost of parts for the beemers put me off a little though but i will own one some day, still love them to bits and yours is the colour combo id have :y:

Cheers mate looks much cleaner with the splitter off imo, as for the front badge it just unclips off, i may take it off to see how it looks but i dont want to mess with the styling too much, why change something thats already nice and secondly its not a saxo it cost me 11.3k so keep it as standard as i can with parts i can put back on so when the time comes the resale value will be better than a modified car

Thats my view on things anyway ;)

Update Time - Pioneer AVIC F310BT Fitted

Little rant first with low cost audio

Would of had the bits two weeks ago but they messed me about, i read a review after this amount of time and to my horror the same thing has happened to me, courier has lost it, item on back order (aerial adaptor on order, hmmm these places should have hundreds in the back)

So lesson learnt to read reviews, although i should of just ordered off ebay as i ended up ordering the bits off there and got them the next day

Ive cancelled the order and requested a refund after countless emails, still no refund but order cancelled, paying with paypal was a good thing the dispute is now open and should be fun :)

Right so as soon as i got the bits off to fit it which took about an hour to do as it was all wired in just needed to take the glovebox out to make the hole bigger for the ipod lead and also to make it easier to feed through, the retaining clips on the fascia/adaptor were snapped as id never get them out due to the headunit sliding in from the back

Built in parrots hands free is pretty good too, microphone is mounted on top of the a pillar, just looks like an alarm sensor and sat nav ive yet to try out but i have used it to get to work to see if it picked up new roads, newest firmware is installed so picked it up no problem (better than the nav i have anyway which led me through towns bring me off motorways to go through them then back onto motorways, yes it confused me too, think it was on scenic route or perv route)

Fit is really oem and im really pleased with it, simple headunit to use, keeps everything tidy, lights matching is a bonus and has all the features i want althought another rca out would of been better, think ill go with an eqauliser though :)

Why collonite well ive always wanted to try it and heard so many good things about it on detailing worls and tbh at the moment cant justify spending 100 quid on zymol glasur, think when collonites gone and see how well it performs ill move onto it but for now its the perfect wax for me :)

Keep tabs on it as ill be starting the paint correction on thursday this week hopefully :)

Anyway heres a little taster of her machine polishing, i didnt get many photos as its now took two days and i cant be bothered to stop every 5 mins for pictures :(

I got a 50/50 shot and thats about it really, also did a lot of wet sanding on bonnet, needs some more on front bumper what had been repainted before i got it, paint looked really lifeless and now im safe to say its looks fantastic :)

Cheers buddy ive spent about 24 hours on her up to now so its very clean just need to do the shuts and interior tomorrow basically polish dust in the shuts quick detail them and then APC some bits on interior and use the ole chemicals guys natural look on everything and spray stripper scent :p

Detail update

I now have about 28 hours on this and the paintwork is looking spot on now although i need to do a few bits on the front bumper wetsanding mainly which will only take an hour if that :)

Anyway i dont have any befores and only a few during but the after shots speak for themselves


Process was as follows

Rinsed
Prewash with some APC
Rinsed
Washed with megs microfibre mitt
Rinsed off
Shuts were done a few days before but washed again with microfibre mitt
Wheels washed with megs wheel brightner using megs slide lock and ez wheel brushes and rinsed off
Clayed with dodo supernatural clay and megs last touch as a lube
Washed again and dryed off with waffle weave towel
3 Stage paint correction using 3M polish, using 3M and lake country pads
Washed again and dryed off to rid polish dust
Dodo lime primed
Poorboys ex-p sealent
Waxed with collinite marque d'elegance
Wheels sealed with poorboys wheel sealent
Black plastics dressed with chemical guys natural look
Tyres dressed with megs high edurance gel
Exhaust tips polished with mothers metal polish
Interior hoovered and a bit of carpet striping going on lol
Autosmart G101 APC on mats
All letaher/plastic/rubber seals dressed with chemical guys natural look
Chemical guys stripper scent :p

well the polo rear wiper isnt next, kw coilover variant 2s with adjustable rear tie bars and vag come hopefully, but the coiolvers and tie bars are about a grand alone :p

cheers for comments on detail, it was clean peter but paint did need correcting, i still think it needs more cutting but i havent got time from now till trax so itll have to do,its mainly the parts you cant get good pressure on ie bumpers and boot although all oxidisation has gone the interior was just majorly dusty and needs some cleaning alont with the leather protecting :)

Coilovers for a harder ride simples, only be dropping it about 20mm anyway and coilovers are adjustable so i can easily go to standard height :homme:

Anyway little update not much, but something broke lol

Rear tie bar past it me thinks, really havent got a clue but it could of been from me or last owner, but there a weak point of car, made of just box section what do you expect. Anyway i was going to pay the 200 for adjustable ones but ended up just getting one for 20 posted from ebay so am more than happy for time being :)

Basically keeps the camber in check for people who dont know what they do ;)

They do have a Supercharger aswell and do sound pretty amazing tbh pal.
Heard a Scirroco 2.0 TSI at T Park (think pred was with us)

Everytime it changed gear with DSG box it popped it's exhaust.

Ah, was under the impression that they were just a 2.0T. It'll sound rather nice with a Supercharger then. I still do love the sound of the R32 V6 though.

Is this recent?

Thought they only did a 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged and intercooled, no super charger.

However they do make a 1.4 TSI

Well been kerb riding again so gonna get my wheels refurbed so im thinking a very light anthracite or should i stick with silver

I was gonna get round to refurbing them anyway, but gonna get them done at romax and might not even bother with getting bbs chs in the end

Heres a shop of it on anthracite rims, you all know what it looks like on silver so no point in putting a pic up

Oh and its also lowered in this picture to see how it will look, i am liking it :)

Well just priced up everything im wanting to do to the golf, turbo and supercharger are out the window tbh, keep it NA i say and cant justify spending money on a turbo kit especially when there 10k lol i could sell mine and buy an evo 10 for that

New top bushes/bearings
New top mounts
KW adjustable rear tie arms
Porsche stage 3 brake kit in red
Milltek cat back ( not sure if non resonated or resondated yet)
Milltek manifolds
JBS de cat and remap
Already a pipercross VIS induction kit on

Should all come in about 3.5k id think with the VAT hiking up next year

Should see about 280 - 290 bhp

Then id go for schrick cams and remap again and should see over the 300bhp mark :) not bad for NA

Turbo will not be getting done mate, for the price id pay for the kit etc i could have 20k sitting about but who knows it may change, i estimated about 4 - 4.5k to get the car how i want with everything on it thats including cams and remap, so should see over 300 without forced induction ;)
