You've already answered your question...
With a rotary you heat the panels to a much higher temp which therefore makes it FAR easier to burn the paint.
With a DA it's near impossible to burn the paint as the pad oscillates rather than spin.

I personally stated with a powerful rotary, as long as your careful you'll be alright but there's always the risk factor on certain paints/edges etc.

Yes you will still get just as good results, it'll just take a wee bitty longer.

dont let people put you off getting a rotary, they really aren't as scary as people make out. best to get a scrap panel to practice on, should only be £10-15 from a scrap yard.
i started with a das6 and wish i went rotary straight away.
Jdizzy has started with a rotary and has burnt through lacquer on his first attempt... (scrap panel)... Hence, i'd go for a DA :y:

LOL...JD fail
Bur personally id go for the rotary first, just read up on it first... you've got to be a mong to burn through though just ensure the paint is safe to work on and take the right measures, don't use a high speed, don't stay in an area, keep it moving, keep the area lubed and the pads damp... you can read plenty of guides explaining all this

It's not that we're putting you off, just don't want a thread in about 2 weeks "Have I ruined my bonnet?"

Half the people who say "don't go rotary first" havn't even used one... (i know P90 has..i think), do what you feel comfertable with. If you're going to do the reading and not jump straight into it, take your time and take good care then go for the rotary... if you're not feeling confident and want to start safe go for the DA. DA's can get just as good results as a rotary so upto you

I've used a DA and a rotary and there is a noticeable difference in the power imo. Let the OP make his decision, but like I said, expect a thread in a couple of weeks when he's burnt his paint.
I'd just like to add that ideally you'd be better off with a paint thickness gauge if you're going to be using a rotary. As you're obviously better off knowing what you're working with.
Rotary's as said generate a lot of heat and can even warp panel's. Not saying don't do it, just saying a lot of people (pro's included) advise to start with a DA.
Let's face it, starting with a DA won't do any harm... Rotary stand's a much larger chance of doing damage. Is it really worth the risk?
And no i haven't used a Rotary before but i've read a fair bit about them... Just trying to help the guy out from what i've read off DW.

Detailing world is your friend to the OP , Rotary will get out more serious defects than a DA could, i always say never run before you can walk, if it were that easy everyone would be using a rotary, practice makes perfect!!, take your time and remember a good job is never rushed!;)

I use rotary, but know its dangerous and also know DA's can produce the same results, so why not just get a DA and cut out all your doubts and risks and get the same finish ?
