View Full Version : VTR wheels rubbing on a 1.1 flat arch.

Sorry in advance as this has already been covered, but i've had a bit of a hunt and couldn't find what i was looking for.
When i bought the car the previous owner had put a vt kit on it and some vtr wheels. It seems as he has done a pretty bodge job as while reading around i found out that VTR wheels need different bolts, and i can see that the ones currently on it are only going in to the hub half way down the thread, and from a diagram another member drew they look like the wrong ones, so i firstly need to buy 16 new bolts thanks to some guys bodge jobbing.
The bad bit however is that i can see the 185/55 tyres have rubbed on the inner arch of the car, presumably because they are too wide. I have seen however that other members have been able to put VTR wheels on their 1.1 with no hassle, so i'm a bit confused. Would i need some 20mm or so spacers on the back to fix this, or is there something i am missing?
Thanks in advance, Ryan.

On the rear arch there's a bit underneath that stickers out, either grind it off or fold it back. Just remember to reseal the arch!

I think that bit is ok, it's the bit inside the arch where on the otherside is the boot of the car. It's as if the VTR wheels are way too close to the car with a tiny bit of clerance between them and the metal part of the boot. It's fine when driving but with people in the back it's gonna rub, as i can see it has done already.

Oh mines fine and im on VTR wheels. Has the rear arch lining come loose?

i had this problem with a full car. The VTR alloys should be a straight swap? 4 stud? its just rubbed a little but it was fine after tbh.

Nah thats all fine, back isn't even lowered so that isn't anywhere near it. I'll take a snap of it in a minute and try to upload it to show you what i mean. I know it's a long shot but could it be due to the standard bolts being on the car, and when i put the correct ones for VTR wheels on they will somehow be further out?

my 1.1 was standard and the vtr alloys was straight swap bolts and all. not sure what your problem is, it only rubbed for me when people were in the car and it went over a bump lol

Yeah it's a straight swap, just haven't got the right bolts yet as the guy before went the cheap route :n: i'm just thinking it's really close to the body

hey pal
im running 195 on my 205s and fit
had the same problem though but mine were catching on the rear beam
the way i sold it i got some 5 mm spacers and it pushed the wheel out enough for it to miss
hope this helps :y:

The bolts shouldn't make a difference if the bolts are wrong the wheel will be loose. The alloys itself can only go as far as the brake drum/hub will let it.

5mm spacers should solve the problem (may even only need 3mm)
The VTR wheels were of course made for the early VTS and VTR all of which have the disk rear beam. The disk rear beam is approximately 5mm wider each side than the drum beam so fitting them on a drum beam means the offset isnt ideal and will cause the wheels to sit a bit close to the inner arch.
Whip some spacers on, 5mm will be ideal and thatll solve it :y:

Well i mean the car has been driven on the bolts it currently has, but when i take them off i can see that they are only half way down the thread, and they have the shape look of the standard steelies ones so i presumed they were those ones, or do they only go half way down the thread of the bolt anyway? Yeah i was thinking some sort of spacers maybe, thanks for that one. Would i need new bolts for those or as it's 5mm would the ones i currently have/ the ones i will be buying which are bolts for VTR wheels be fine for them? also where could i find 5mm spacers for a saxo? Only thing i ever seem to see on this forum is 20mm :n:
Thanks for all your help

With the bolts, how do i know if they are the right ones? may buy some off someone in the for sale thread however how can i make sure they are the right VTR bolts for my wheels as i hear there are 3 or 4 different ones?
Thanks

yo, av just bought vt fitment wheels that came with 20mm spacers which are fine at the front on my 1.1 but they were touching the rear beam. i got 3mm spacers from halfors and put them on the back aswell and its sitting perfect now at 23mm. although its soon to be lowered a lot so that might change lol. but for now all looks good.

Yeah i just picked up some VT bolts and put some 5mm spacers on that back and it seems to have done the trick. Got some mates to sit in the back and saw that i had some good clerance :) thanks for the help

Another question, if i was to lower my car about 30mm would this effect it at all and will it go back to its usual rubbing?
