cant reverse

i got a lil 2000 saxo 1.4 automatic and i cant reverse when i got it in P (park) it jumps forward slightly to get the car to go back i have to turn it off and push it out of driveway

sorry forgot to add that when i move into reverse car trys to go back but wont move, reversing light comes on its as if the handbreak is on. my bro seems to think one of the cables may be damaged or snapped. or is it something more stupid....:oops: so frustrating
