View Full Version : Wheel has lost some shine...

I normally use Bilberry wheel cleaner on my wheels but watered down in the ratio of 1:10 as my wheels are powdercoated Gloss Black so I was told it's best to do a weak mix. I accidentally used too strong of a mixture of Bilberry earlier on on one of the wheels and have noticed that part of the wheel has kind of lost it's shine so i'm wondering if this has stripped off a layer of laquer or something? It's not even that noticeable, i'm just being fussy... Is there anything on the market I can use to try and get the shine back? Any advice/links would be great.

My usual process is:

Clean with bilberry wheel cleaner
Polish wheels with SRP (sometimes)
Seal wheels with poorboys wheel sealant

Thanks :y:

Bit dark to get pics now, I will get some tomorrow. I didn't think it would either but it has definatly done something to the paint! They are very well painted wheels due to them being powdercoated so hopefully I will be able to get the gloss back!

It would be good to see the pictures, I don't use bilberry any more, there is better products out there imo, but it's certainly weird for such a "safe" wheel cleaner to damage your rims y0!

Yes dude, one side of the wheel has kind of faded, doesn't look as glossy as the other side...

This happened to mine, and i can guarentee there is no laquer on your wheels if this has happened

Mine where gloss black and then went all dull and looked marked

Mine went like this from gloss black

Sorry for the big photo, but it looks like it has streaks all over the face of it

But its due to the quality of the paint being cheap and nasty....

i used bilberry on my wheels at 7:1 maybe lower ratio and my new wheels are fine

safe wheel cleaner

It's not as safe as some may think, the amount of Alkali within it is pretty high, Gloss-It wheel cleaner, Autobrite Brite Gel and CG wheel and rim cleaner ftw!

^^^^

That's similar to what it's like although not as bad and only on one spoke of the wheel. You guys think that some more abrasive polish will work/help?
