View Full Version : how far can you lower a furio?
what the title says... what i mean is how far without destroying the car? because i want it to be as low as it can go on it's arse but i think the front can about 60mm and that's about as low it can go until you have to buy new shocks. am i right?

I wouldnt be surprised if your shocks are FUBAR as mine were after only 3 months. You can lower the car about 40mm all round on standard shocks without needing to replace them. The lowest you can go with upgraded shocks is 70mm with off the shelf parts. And with coilovers probably 100mm+

I'm sitting at 55/85 on my VTR and no problems so far 'TOUCH WOOD' but come August am upgrading the rear dampers and shocks anyways for that extra comfort and safety :).

dont lower it more than 40mm on standard shocks. the lowest you can go on a budget is 60mm spring and damper kit on the front, and upto you on the back but can be taken all the way down to 100mm if you wish
100 sounds good on the back :) lol how much will the coil over springs cost roughly or a set of upgraded springs?

Height completly depends on budget, its possible to get it how ever low as you want. custom coilover set and some grinding along with removing arb you can see 120. Could go for hydraulics or airbags to...... anything can be done but you gotta have the mula

I wouldn't even bother lowering on standard shocks, do the job right, do the job once. Plus uprated shocks are the dogs - compared to citroen ones lol
ok cheers people :) i reckon i shall get coil overs or uprated shocks, see what my wallet says :P

LISTEN TO THIS GUY ^^^^^^^
They're fucking awful... and i'm speaking from experience!
You want me tbh, 60mm front 90mm rear is what i'm running and i'm perfectly happy with it. It's as low as you want to go. Keeps it looking smart and help's keep some form of comfort.
I ran standard shocks like this for ages. I lowered it on the original shocks that were on the car (so could have been 5 year old for all i know) and they managed to last another 2 and half years before they gave way! So saying that lowering 60mm will ruin standard shocks is bollocks imo - not necessarily the best handling set-up but they can last a fairly decent amount of time in my experience.

If your going to lower the whole car its important to at least upgrade the rear shocks. For the sake of £30 on 2nd hand shocks with low milage on them it will last you a few years, by then you will have probably got rid of the car. As for coilovers expect to pay £300 for ones wich lower -100mm+

just got mine lowered by willsy 40mm on 16's, looks good mate and you can still get people in the back! :)
yeah how low can i go on the back and still have 2 subs with heavy box and 3 people in the back? without it dragging along the road :P and i would probably go for 70-80 back and 60-70 on front... :)

As said dont get the cheap brand coilivers, there in various name's and range from abot £120 up to £250. Dont have coils myself so cant give you price's but most common decent ones that are used are FK, GAZ, AST. theres plenty of people on here who can give you more info on them that have used them personally, iirc the cheapest of these is around the £450 mark

Im lowerd 70mm at the back with a full twin layerd MDF floor, Sub box with sub, amp, tools. I run stiffer shocks and it sits arond about 80mm, with the back full with 3 people also it sits about 90-100mm and i still have no problems wih driveablility. you can have it as low as you want it to go lol theres bump stops there for a reason. one thing i would say is you need to make sure it sits atleast level, and ideally nose down. 60mm all round sounds a decent height for what your after, you can run 60mm all round on standard shocks easilly enough just make sure the shocks arnt currently damaged in anyway. but i would advise uprating them all after some time.
im not looking to spend that much tbh :P maybe just upgraded shocks then? still should be better than standard shocks.

if your on a budget just buy some 60mm springs and get them installed if the shocks fail at a later date then uprated them then

As said above you can lower 60+mm and with the addition of modified arches (rolled inner lip) you can quite comfortably seat 3 passengers in the rear - im speaking from experience.

im down 60 front and 70 back. i can still take a car full of burly lads without anything rubbing. just have to go real slow over bumps or it'll hit the decat pipe
ok i would love 70, 80 i reckon, would look slammed :) lol but worried about speed bumps :/

lol dont worry about speed bumps. not as bad as people make out sometimes. just take em slow
ok thanks guys :D and i just lovee the look of a low saxo, coz they allready look a bit of a wide kit on because of the arches. well it looks like it to me ;P

it's your car do what you want to do but i wouldn't lower the car anymore than 60mm without replacing the shocks...
lowered my first car 60mm without replacing the shocks
2nd car lowered further with uprated shocks and there is a huge difference...
personally i'd never lower without shockers again.
but it depends what your budget is... do it to suit yourself. :y:
yeah, i might just go 60mm all round, would 60 front 70 back be alright with uprated shocks or will i get trouble and shit handling?
