hiya bob :) yeah the key symbol comes on but it goes off.... so i know its not the imobiliser :)
Hey Sarah,
Ok, great. "Hot key" has got me stumped! Could be your starter motor is failing.
However, is the engine light on all the time or does it flash when you cannot start the car?

the engine management light is on and its steady on :(
OK,
Then they may be unrelated. I am assuming that the engine light is on even when you have no problems starting the car.
Starter motor probably not well and I'd guess the engine light is emissions related.

b4 this happend the engine manangement light wasnt on? i only noticed it on when i tried to start it and it wouldnt turn over :(
Ok. Its ignition related then. I recall reading that the engine light comes on during a "misfire".
Could be plugs, coilpack or the TDC sensor.
I'll check and confirm.

my stepdads thinking it could be the ignition barrel??
Yup, thought as I thought a "misfire" sets the engine warning light. The ECU can tell if there is no ignition.
But to add to this list it could be fuel related so add the injectors to the list. You'll need to get the fault codes read to avoid just changing bits and pieces.
The "BOOK" says: Misfiring is detected by the monitoring of instantaneous speed changes created by each piston stroke... Check:
The ignition - plugs, coil, harnesses
Injection: weak air/fuel mixture [fuel filter blocked]
Fuel pressure [fuel pump or leaks]
Injector seized
Induction air leaks
Valve seals [compression test]
Well if he fixes it ignore the above...
