Hi there, I was driving my 03 VTR to visit my parents when on the M25 the car began making a strange whining/gringing noise. It is not engine or brake related as when I dipped the clutch it continued and when I touched the brakes too. The only way to alleviate it was to dab the throttle and when I released the peddle it came back and was pretty loud. It must be transmission based but any idea where?
The best way to describe the noise was like a yelping puppy as the car decellerated. Then all of a sudden it just stopped!
Is it a CV Joint/ driveshaft? (it defo wasnt a puppy!)
Cheers in advance
Hi,
Could be a wheel bearing. Try checkin like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5khjK0y6PIw

Driveshaft intermediate bearing
£23 from citroen
or a new complete driveshaft for about £80 from Eurocarparts.

thanks for the help. How certain are you its the intemidiate bearing Jody?? Sounds like you know your Saxos!! If your fairly sure is that I will order the part and get it swapped over. Will it be OK to drive it like it in the meantime? Should I get it changed ASAP?
Cheers again

yeah i am 90% sure it is, its the passenger shaft, and its a easy change. :y:
Passenger side driveshaft doesn't have an intermediate bearing...

see i am kinda gettin the same thing on mine.
its as soon as you turn the key. like a whining noise... from lifting the bonnet it sounds like its coming from the alternator or surrounding area. but dunno.
dunno if this is linked, but i have noticed after topping up my wiper bottle it holds water for about 5 mins, then it empty again. i know i probably have a crack/hole in the washer bottke, but maybe there connected. as a water pump can make that whining noise, cant it?

see mine seems to be alternator i reck. wish it wasnt, coz it means spending cash. but its as soon as i turn the key, can hear something whining, almost sounds like somethings turning fast, and making a whining noise. and i think the sound changes when i use the windows. but maybes thats me.
how hard is changing the alternator?
baring in mind i am not great. took me about 2 hours to remove a rear break disc and caliper, and replace. to be fair, they was very seized, and didnt have the right tools for the job
