Right, at the moment my rear axel needs replacing so at some point i will be giving the guys at IM axels a call to sort out a refurbished one. Anyhoo since im getting the rear axel done i thought i may aswel get it lowered at the same time.

This means i'll be needing some springs for the front or it will just look silly having the rear lowered all on its own. Anyway, ive priced things up and with just buying spring and fitting them to the standard shocks it'll cost me around £490 fitting and everything all in. However to buy the full set of upgraded dampers too it'll cost me £630 pounds ish.

Quite a pricey job tbh but i was thinking if it doesnt make much difference i'd just buy the springs to save money.

Would this be a bad move or should i go and buy dampers too?

£490 to have springs fitted? Springs cost a max of £120, fitting takes an hour £35 max labour :S

Depends how low your going on weather to get dampers. Personally id always do dampers aswell. But them figures are a rip off unless your gettin springs from NASA made of some next special metal from the moon.

Noooo, its going to cost £445 for a new oilite bush axel fitted along with the fitting of front springs. So £445 plus the price of springs or springs and dampers.

So either like £500 quid just springs on front, or £620 ish for dampers too inc new rear ones.

I would deifnately recommend the dampers. I have made so many bad choices with my car and have learnt the hard way too many times. I would rather some one else didn't pay the extra money and have it better in the long run. Trust me.

Hmmm such a hard choice... Well the Apex 50mm kit inc rear shocks and is 205 pound. The springs on their own is £60 so thats and extra £145 for dampers and a total spend of £650 ish all fitted....

Is it worth it?

Very worth it! Thats the cheapest decent kit you can get aswell.

£145 for all dampers lol thats half the price of the front insert on mine :(

Hmmm, it wouldnt be so bad if i was buying them seperate. Its just the thought of spending £600 all at once...

I just cant decide, how bad would it be just having springs? Would the ride be really crashy?

Another thing to consider aswell, if its just lowered on springs, it'll quite likely damage the standard dampers as well, as I'm finding out now, my Saxo's been lowered on springs and both my front dampers are screwed.

Might be better off in the longrun to have the uprated dampers as piece of mind like

Springs are crap you'd be better off standard. If you dont buy shocks now you'll only end up having to buy them come MOT time. I've just gone from springs to uprated stuff and they had only been on for 6months and the shocks were fooked.

if your dampers are in good condition then save money and just get springs. all depends on what type of driving you do aswell.

Cheers for the replies people! It really does seem like you all reckon upgrading the dampers too will be bettwer off in the long run. So i may just have to spend that little bit extra to save money elsewhere.

Looks like overtime will be my middle name for the next month :P
