Just wired my sub into car.
obviously i have :
power from sub - battery
ground from sub : chassis
remote from sub : remote off headunit
Rca : rca
i turn the ignition off, and the subs power button is off etc. but when i test it with a voltmeter, putting it on the power and the earth, it shows it as still being live, is this normal? and is it draining my battery?
first time doing this so any help appreciated :)

Assuming you mean amp not sub? Or do you have an active enclosure? Best thing to do is check your remote. Go bewteen remote and ground with teh ignition off. Then turn your ignition on and see what it reads. If there sint any voltage when th ignition is on then its your remote. Quick fix. Find the red cable with a bullet connector on and put it on that. Either that or you havent actually got it on the remote cable of the HU There is a blue wire on some HUs that says mute or something like that.

Ahh thought so. Remote shouldnt be 2 cables but now youve said that i reckon i know whats happening. Disconenct the one with out a + on it. As i think your creating a short circuit by having 2 cables so the volatge is going down the other cable instead of going through the neccesary circuits to turn the amp on.

So you put the volt meter across the power feed and the earth? Power will always be running to the amp from the battery regardless of if the engine is on or not.

Yeah it's fine because if you think about it that is the sme as you testing the battery itself as the power cable is connected directly to posi on batt and the ground is obviously grounded to batt too so in affect you are actually just testing batt this is why the have the remote wire all this is is an ignition wire that tells your amp when the car is on so it is fine asuming I have actually understood you
