yo,
Jus thought it would be interesting to see peoples thoughts and experiences on the saxp tracktime slot. I was in a white saxo with white comp mos... It was my first time doin rockingham and was cautious to start, also wen i have done trackdays previous there is a slow sightin lap but as i was at the back everyone seemed to boot it, i was unaware at first and did the first lep in 4th lol, as i thought everyone was on a warm up, at this point i think i was holdin up a silver saxo and a blue saxo, sorry lol, as they went nuts from the off...as i didnt think overtakin was allowed on the sightin lap... Other points to note, there was a 172 that almost t boned a silver saxo at the chicane before the pit straight as the saxo in front had spun rite into the middle of the chicane. Was a bit manic, but short and fun, i had no insurqnce so was jus glad to be able to do the drive home...

I was thoroughly pissed off on track after lap 2 as there were 2 saxo's quite clearly racing each other that were obviously asleep during the briefing.

Some people need to learn some track courtesy and etiquette before being let out again

Also, I thought it was quite a fast out lap tbf

The saxo with the engine in the boot that couldn't close the boot lid wasn't as fast as I expected, there was a white saxo with a dump valve (and a turbo charger I hope) :D. That was fast.

Makes you realise how slow standard VTR's are though when you see the heavily modifed examples screaming down the straights.

Evo's sounded good too :D.

i agree... I am sure in the briefin it said a slow out lap in formation..which is why i was confused wen peeps seemed pissed wen i didnt move over on the first lap.

Oh deaarr, How did you get home? I also saw the 3 saxos that got stopped on the Parade Lap, Why where they stopped? I thought they got stopped for doing wheelspins and quick pull off's or was it something else?

yer i did brifting in the morning and they told me only did one lap behind the caterham... so i thought he had gone in so i put my foot down.. then saw the caterham so i back off and sloted back in behind the same person.. i am sorry about that...

but on my first track session of the day we only did the one lap not the two laps we did on the saxp session.. as on the first one i was the car right behind the caterham!!

but that was my fault for that sorry about that... also people claiming oh i was faster than you do my head in... i was back off more if i got close to people or had some one behind so they could safely go pass so that we was not to close entering corner as stated in brifting no over taking in corners.

i try my best to allow poeple to pass if they wanted to go hell bent into corner and slid everywhere like a few i saw... less in the saxp session have to say.... but in my first session at 10 people where coming left right and center in to corners and sliding and locking up... so just left them to go pass.

but again i am sorry for overtaking during the slow lap.. it was a my mistake sorry people.

Track Section was WIN. Done Top Gear Test Track, Silverstone and now Rockingham and loved every min as always. Annoying that the Yellow flag was still out on half the second lap but after then was fun.

That was me in the blue saxo, i was out to have fun not to race, i was in a standard 1.4 and in front was a silver vts. I am sorry for trying to go round on a corner but i honestly thought you were letting off. Did try and find you after but you went straight back to the sax-p stand, pm me if you want to talk about it more. I do appologise but i did want to push my car as its got uprated brakes suspension etc as i can't do this on the roads and for me to stay with a vts i was very pleased with.

I probably annoyed some of you tbh, I was in the Red VTR. Wasn't exactly great in a straight line but after a couple of laps I was keeping good pace through the corners.

Was my first ever track time so did it for the experience really, hopefully in the near future I will have up rated brakes and a few more hp under the hood so I won't get in the way as much!

Did try to move over asap though :y:

I thought it was pretty shit! Got stick in soo much traffic I didn't overtake anyone till the third lap! Then had a silver 172 almost take me out, then had a black sXo with red wheels spin infront of me in the chicane then cut me up, then the same thing a lap later with soemone else in another saxo. I'm no race driver but they should have seperated people who has never been on track to people who have some experience!

Track sessions at shows normally are quite poor. OPL track days are much better but then again i surpose thats becuase shows are generally full of track first timers..

I was more annoyed that I had one of each of you on each side of my rear bumper so I didn't have a line into any corner, or any opportunity to pull right and let you both past.

If you ask anyone that's seen me on a session before I will gladly let anyone by. At the end of the day I was out there to test my new suspension setup and I didn't bank on the session being hijacked by peeps that can't stick to the track rules, which incidentally are there for everyone's safety!

Can't remember which side of me you were at ttrying to go round each bend 3 abreast but the next time I'm in that situation I will sideswipe the culprit!

Well thought i'd have a go on the track because we was told in the briefing, "its for fun only, no racing", so thought it would be fine. I went on with my brother (islayer - the matt black 1.1 saxo with the bodykit lol). I had karlh in my car. Well we got on late because hardly anyone returned helmets so they were running low on them, but we finally got on at about 3.05 lol.

Overall I did enjoy it, gotta admit I was pretty nervous cos my car is pretty standard, just a few light changes and an exhaust lol so I was goin round the corners and pretty much sliding everywhere haha, but I stuck to the rules and stuck to the right and let people go past me. I was taking corners at about 40 and found it hard to keep control, and I had people blasting past me, must of been doing 60.. CRAZY people :P haha But overall was good fun :)

Totally agree with this!

It's not a race or a competition to prove that you can beat VTS's or what not, it is simply Track Time, If you want to do things such as that then you should do Track Days.

If someone is behind you let them past, If people want to be childish and say "My VTR,1.1, Furio" Whatever is faster than such and such, then these people really shouldn't be allowed on track.

Sounds like all the reason's i won't take my car on track tbh. Okay, my car's stripped out but i'm not going out on track to let an amateur (like myself tbf) go and help me smash my car up.

i enjoyed the sax_p session,i was in the white citroen AX but i think id overtaken everything in front of me by the end of the 1st lap though so just carried on my merry way, racings not suppose to happen but you always get a few cars of similar pace pushing each other even on proper track days tbh,so long as people give each other plenty of room and dont do touring car style overtaking forcing others out the way everything should go smooth

i try to be sensible and give other people room when i pass, although i was out nearly all day on track and whitnessed quite a few ignorant people not letting much quicker cars pass them on the infield, which this in itself causes issues for those in faster cars lap by lap who may not have enough power to easily pull pass on the main straight

there is no shame in being passed by a better handeling car or driver but i think there is shame in holding faster cars and driver up just cos you dont want to be passed by them

oops sorry james about the other thread should have looked harder.

i need to sort out some much better rubber and also polyflex it up a bit as its could be tighter than it is now.

other than that had a great time even though they cocked up my saxp track time by having no helmets.

got a great vid of the loosing the back end in the shicane (sp) as i got caught out overtaking and had the brakes on through the corners loosing the back end caught it enough to get it back though. also lost a exhaust hanger when i down shifted and thought if fucked my gear box as it cluncked alot.

overall learned an aweful lot so i come away happy

My thoughts exactly. I had planned on going to FCS next year and going on track for it but now I think I'll just keep my car on the stand.
It's not worth it really.

Craig did you take the Octavia on? Saw one going round, but wasn't sure if it was you?

Think I got quite lucky on the first session, most people seemed to have their heads screwed on, and drove sensibly. Watching later on was just laughable, overtaking on both sides, down the middle and into corners, even on the sighting laps, WTF?

Oh, and cheers to the black VT(R?) on the 10am session who indicated to let me pass, only noticed it watching the vid back, knew I wouldn't have been past by the next corner if I tried, so that's why I hung back.

its alright mate, i was just shocked when you pulled back out on me after spinning it. the guy in the posi vtr is my friend, he was letting off deliberatly to get the thing to go sideways resulting in more than you just you spinning! the next lap another guy was following him and did the same!!!

guy in the black saxo was dangerous- he was on a coupl eof times earlier in the day (he had tiny carbon mirrors) my friend was out in his white kit car on a few sessions and he completely cut him up to the point where he put some wheels on the grass, and was all over the track. just being a complete tool!

on the plus side i went back out at 3:45 and it was fine, it must just be us lot from saxp who cant drive!

I think some people saved up all their pocket money to spend all day on the track racing inexperienced drivers/lesser specced car rather than spending it on an organised full day at another time vs 99% specced/skilled cars :)

i think the issue with show track sessions and even on full trackdays is that some of the slower drivers tend to be too stuborn to move over to the faster drivers

yes its not a race but to be stuck behind someone for a lap cos there slower on the infield part but have a car equal to yourss ddown the straight meens your never going to get paassed cos there not going to let you passed

in the breifings they always tell you to watcch for people faster thaan you in the corners and to just let them passed and continue at your own pace but this rarely haappens coss everyone seems to get there head in "im not getting passed by everyone"

ive done plenty of sessions over many years so id put myself firmly in the experiance section but christ even i moved over and let the faster car passed me even if it was through a long corner

its one of them things that will never be sorted out but i cant honestly say i never saw anything id class as down right dangerous out there yesterday, but i did see a few people having to make there precencce known to a few of the ignorant drivers who didnt want to get passed by a car who 2 laps back was miles behind them

But i let off and let you go safely round the corner, but when it got to the straight obviously my car has no go whatsoever - i recall you pretty much half throttling it on the straight to let me come past as i was behind you on corners and still being better off as your car is far superior to mine. I would be much more happy going out there alone if i was such a 'hazzard' i only did it to push my car not to ruin anyone elses session at the end of the day it was my first time as well, so the in-experiance was also to blame.

I'd have to echo what bickerton has said really. It did seem that earlier on the majority of drivers seemed to know how to behave and as the day progressed the rules just flew out the window and it became a free for all.

Again it did seem that the more experienced caused an issue more so than the newbies.

Who was the black VT on the 10.45am session that went through the cones instead of turning left after the banked straight?
