really racking my brain here. My car was perfectly fine, came to take a corner and bang, loud pop (almost like a blowout) and the wheel drops. Limped it home, but it makes a really loud bang when you get on the power or pull away. Took off passenger wheel, turned it and it gets harder at points to turn, until it gets stuck. Opened bonnet, cracked wheel on and went to pull off. Apparantly it pulled the engine forward before making the bang noise, then went to normal, rinse repeat. Only does it under load though, if i dipped the clutch it went away, came back when reengaging. All other wheels turn fine though. Really pissing me off, cant drive it obviously, and theres no obvious damage anywhere, or leaks!

so if you free wheeled say either dipped clutch or out of gear, this problem would'nt happen?

can feel the resistance turning the wheel when the cars jacked up in neutral (off obv) and doesnt happen if im driving with clutch dipped. Didnt put it in neutral when driving, but happened when engine braking

no idea, i'm hoping its a driveshaft then its a quick fix. if its the diff as i've feared then i'm fooked lol

Sounds like the diff. Get a second hand gearbox (£100 ish) as it'll be cheaper than replacing the diff (gearbox strip + diff itself).

turns out its the diff bearings have died. Garage arent willing to stick the 1.1 box on incase it dies. Also gonna wang a new clutch on while its off. So, anyone got a spare vtr box? Lol

Garage wont do what you've asked them to?? find another garage! Tossers. Thought it'd be the diff. Bad luck old chap :(

they know me and my mum, and he doesnt want to risk me blowing a 1.1 box in a short time!

you're no more likely to blow a 1.1 gearbox than you are a vts box. Tell them to fit the 1.1 box.

i have a 1.1 box fitted to a vts engine with light mods. It was previously on a vtr, then before that the original 1.1
just get it put on and tell them to do as they are told for their money
it is definitely the diff yeah? checked the driveshafts are both undamaged? i only as as i had the same problem when my cv joint imploded lol might well be the diff but important to check the shafts as well

The 1.1 box will be able to easily cope with the extra power as it's exactly the same box albeit with slightly different ratios. Take it in and tell him it's a VTR one ;)
