I'm looking at something like this for the front speakers in my car http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/9966.html

Would I benefit from adding an amplifer to amp the 2 front channels. These speakers are only rated at 50watt rms but I was thinking of this amp
http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/5625.html

I have this headunit http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product_m-cda-9812rb_p-19675.htm It kicks out 4x27watt rms as standard so would an external amp make much differece or should I get speakers with bigger power handling?

opinions please :)

Amp is good. Comps im not too sure about.
As for running them off the headunit, don't. headunit claims to be 50 watt but the rms is significantly lower and generally amps in headunits are gashtastic.

How much should I be looking at spending for a good set of components? The only downside to them for me is some of the sets have massive crossovers, there isn't really anywhere to put them.

How long is a piece of string pal? It all depends on your wallet. You can go down the budget route, or you can spend silly amounts of money or go somewhere in between. It depends how much quality you want and at what price your willing to pay for it.

EDIT: Nice HU too, great piece of kit

I run type-r's in the front doors. Used to be amped - now I'm running a stripped interior, no place for the amp so they're just from the head unit. Really noticeable drop in performance. Amp them if you can :)

is it just me or when you amp up subs the quality of the speakers improve alot and are much louder, can anyone explain why this happens? i suppose it sucks a bit of juice from the amp.

Your sub overpowers your speakers so you dont notice when they sound bad?
As amping a sub wont improve the quality of your fronts

yeah but they honestly do. and they do that for my cousins. it's weird because when i turned volume up to about 25 they would crackle coz headunit amp is shit but when i put a sub in and turned it up to say 30-35 they sounded fine, and turned the gain off so the subs werent doin anything much and still sound much better with the amp for the subs connected. it's really weird but quite kool :D

If your going for sound quality. Id say for an amp (which is essential imo) you should look for a genesis profile 4. Amping the components in the front of your car makes soo much diffrence its unreal. Just because the speakers are rated at 50 wrms doesnt mean that they cant take more. You would need to set them up properly on the HU and the amp to make sure there is no distortion.

I'm looking at either of these tbh

http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/5564.html

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/rainbow-slx230.html

I'm after sound quality more than outright volume, I don't usually play my headunit at more than half power as it distorts and is too loud to concentrate on driving. I have a sub already and I am running the standard speakers. Would there be much difference between these two sets... anyone here know what they are like/recommend?

I would say both of those would be really decent quality wise, to get best out of them amp them up and then to make them sound even better sound deaden your doors and you will notice a large amount of difference :y:

Sound deadening and proper installation of the speakers will make the biggest difference, so I would do that first in combination with some new decent speakers, rainbow and DLS speakers are very good.

How big a difference an amp makes depends on loads of things. You have a decent quality HU and unless you're going to start playing music really loudly you probably wont notice a huge difference.

Do a good job installing them, otherwise you're wasting your money.

Out of the 2 sets of comps you have linked in the latest post. I would choose the DLS's. They could handle a lot more than 50 watts RMS.

I would almost say they would accept up to 100 watts RMS but dont blame me if they go pop :p
