vtr- 1.6 8v
vts-1.6 16v
vts is faster but is group 14 insurance and vtr is only group 7 depending on your age id go for the vtr..how old are you?

VTR - 1.6 8v, 90 - 98bhp depending on year, insurance group 7, 14" wheels, good mpg (in my experience).
VTS - 1.6 16v, 120bhp, close ratio gearbox, insurance group 14, 15" wheels, mpg not as good as VTR, comes with ABS and a few other extras.
Both fun cars - depends on what you want. For a lot of motorway work, I'd take a VTR.

If your not bothered about the cost of insurance, presumably the cost of fuel wont matter either.
So get a VTS, but don't wrap it around a tree.

Lol, yes. I got quoted 6.5k at 17 but I am a bloke. Still be about 3k+ I reckon.
Saxos have a reputation for being crashed by chavs which is probably why I could insure a skyline for less than a vts.

Its group 14 insurance, your ford ka is probably a group 2 or 3?
So yeah the cost will significantly increase..

Why don't you check the price then the reality of things may set in. Rather than buy the car realize its too much then be stuck with a car you can't drive?

I cant belive you people pay that for those cars! You must live in the crime capitals of the uk.
When i was 19, my first car was a Fiesta XR2i and i paid £1100 for it tpft, then after 2 months i sold it and bought a Corsa GSi and it cost me an extra £40 to upgrade to that on my insurance.
I have a VTS now and at 22 with no no claims its still only £1100 for the year with windscreen, breakdown and payment protection all in with admiral.
You are retarded if you pay more than a cars worth to insure it if its going to cost more than a grand.
My advice to you saxo girl is to get a VTR and try getting quotes with Quinn direct as they are very cheap on sports models for young drivers provided they are under 110bhp. also try the female only insurance companies and see how you get on.
But seriously - get a VTR and wait a year to get some no claims before you start going for the faster cars.

If your dad is so rich why is he buying you a Saxo?
Surely he'd buy you a safer car so when you crash it won't fold like saxos do.

There's no other options for young drivers sometimes,
Would of cost me £2,200 just for a 1.1.
And that's 3rd party fire n theft.

i got for a furio then get a vtr vts in a couple years. my gt 25 6 years ncb be 425 if she insured my vts. iam not being funny theyre very powerful. really hard to keep under control in ice if you really want a 1.6 got for a vtr my gf got one still got bit of power but cheap insurance. easier to drive in bad weather.would want you to put youreself in hospital. i had 1.2 corsa 1st car then 1.1 fiesta then 1.1 pug 106. had mu first big engine car when 21 had 1.6 astra 600 quid fully comp then got my vts at 23 800quid fully comp.see what i mean build up to a powerful car why alot of young adults have accidents when young because they hant got driving experience to control a powerful car in all weather conditions. my sister 21 wants a vts i wont let her have one till she got another years driving experience dont want to see her in hopstial

26th June 2010, 15:45
I'd get a VTR if i was in your shoes. I've had both VTR and VTS engine in my car and theres really not that much difference between the two to be honest. If (which i have a feeling you will) like traffic light racing, straight line, drag etc the S is the faster car but around a track a VTR with decent brakes and suspension will always piss on a standard VTS.
Also think of the fuel and insurance costs on a VTS...

The insurance company would shaft up both holes for a VTS at your age. VTR would be the better option just purely for the insurance costs.

LOL!
I love it when people seem to think a VTS is a supercar! there a peice of piss to drive mate! You have got to be the worlds biggest failure if you can't handle the power of a 1.6!
You could crash any car at any speed, just because it has a bigger engine doesnt make it a wild animal unless you either drive like a retard or have lead shoes.
My dad has only ever driven cars below 1.6 litres, he has never had an accident, he has now got a astra vxr so a fairly large step up after 30 years. Guess what, he still hasn't crashed it, proberly because he doesnt drive it like a twat. Age and experiance has nothing to do with it.

dont use text talk its f**king annoying to read, also dont say your gonna start racing, it really doesnt go down well on here, im not saying i dont drive "enthusiastically" now and again but i dont go shouting about it
also its another argument abut i dont think 17 yr olds should have vts's, if im that well off when im a dad i wouldnt be buying my child a vts when they are 17, one way ticket to the grave yard for sure

not saying you are rich, but i know my dad wouldn't buy me a fast car with a 2 star n cap rating for me when i was 17, it just sounds your being a bit naive about it, but as long as you dont ditch it then go for it, im jealous of you would loved to have had a vts for my first car, ive only just fitted a vts engine in to my vtr and im almost in to my forth year of driving
