Thanks to the user named "666". As he taught me how to remove the key from the petrol cap when he was buying a petrol cap off me. He put a guide together, however all the pictures are no longer working and there have been requests for a new guide.
Information
Difficulty: Easy
Tools needed: 1 Kitchen Knife (or simular tool)
Time needed: 5 Minutes
Removing the key
First off, remove your petrol cap from your car. If you don't know how to do this then you need shooting.

Turn your key to the lock position, and prise apart the two plastic parts as seen in the picture below.

Turn the key keeping the two parts apart, seen in the picture below

Keep turning the key until it won't go any further. Keeping the parts prised apart.

Whilst the two parts are still prised apart, pull the key out.

Removing the lock from the cap
On a standard petrol cap its a case of just pulling the back from the cap. Alternatively you can use a knife and try to prise the lock from the cap.
I found the best method is to hold the cap up-right on the floor..

..then push down on lock part.

Job done

Non-standard petrol caps are the same for getting the key out. However the technique how they hold to the cap may be different. In the past i've had a petrol cap where i've had to slightly bend a couple metal 'legs' that hold it to the cap - awesome paint picture below.

Other aftermarket petrolcaps may vary, post a picture and ask for help if you get stuck.
