Ok saxp, i need some advice.. (Please excuse the life story)
ive been inlove with saxo's since i was 14, october last year i finally bought one (a 53 plate VTR)! and i love it to bits, but as im a learner driver insurance is mental, im currently insured with Quinn at £1071 fully comp.. since they went in to admin' they have crazy high rates.. ive been getting quotes for renewal time, and cheapest i can find is £1900 fully comp... im 22 and looking to pass my test before august (Hopefully)
im also a huge fan of classic mini's, and i got a quote on a mini at £804 fully comp! which is highly tempting..
What would you do in my possition.. keep the sax and pay the price? or sell up for something cheaper? (classic mini is a win for me)
Any advice would be appreciated :y:

well, if i was you and could just afford to keep the saxo i would but if you like the mini then get one for a few years then if you still want a saxo get rid of the mini in like 2-3 years etc and insurance should be alot cheaper then to.

thats the biggest problem, im currently unemployed, i was working when i bought the Vtr.. but now im not working and paying £1800+ insurance seems abit mental.. i 'Can' borrow the money from my dad, and pay him back when ever i can, but im leaning towards the cheaper alternative :panic:

is that the cheapest quote you got? try admiral and have one of your parents as a named driver on the policy too.
i would keep the saxo imo

I suppose the only thing holding you back is that you've got the Saxo how you want it, and you like both.

i have been looking at classic mini's as well mate. but tbh the mini's might be alot cheaper in insurance but the car cost's more and that made te difference to me. if you can find one cheap go for it

Have you enquired about 3rd party fire & theft? Some companys have a big price difference between 3rd party and fully comp.. You might be able to find a reasonable quote for 3rd party, just so long as you have a sensible head and don't go nuts in the car, drive very sensible for a year and don't smash it..
Then after a year of driving you'll have a years no claims, which usually equates to about 30% off your insurance.. Also you will be a year older, with a years safe driving under your belt, so they wont fuck you as much with quotes
Then after a year you can decide weather or not you think it's worth paying the extra for fully comp, or weather to continue getting cheap 3rd party insurance and driving sensibly

Surely the mini is more fun?
As you are unemployed sell the car and blag lifts off your friends :D Saves loads of money in running costs and insurance.
Then when you get a job, get the mini!

Mixed reviews here, but both sides make a good arguement!! i think im keeping the saxo, mostly because i have it now, and there arent many mini's for sale round here (the 1 i showed in post 1, is 145 miles away and £2200)..
i think tpft and drive carefully for a year sounds good, ill get some quoutes in a sec :y:

I have my renewal with Quinn at the end of the month. £1091. I phoned them up and asked about a VTR and it was only £90 more. So I shall hopefully be getting a VTR in a few months :)
Ask about your quote again see if they can do any better
