Do you need an extra licence to drive 7.5 ton trucks?

IIRC your license once passed only allows cars or something.

Lost my wallet so I cant see what the back on mine says tho :(

Jus been reading this.

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/DriverLicensing/CaravansTrailersCommercialVehicles/DG_10013074

Because EC regulations limit drivers aged under 21 years to driving vehicles or combinations which weigh no more than 7.5 tonnes MAM, drivers under the age of 21 are not allowed to drive subcategory C1+E vehicles up to 12 tonnes MAM. But 18 year old drivers are allowed to take a test for subcategory C1+E which will allow trailers in excess of 750kgs MAM to be towed. Entitlement is limited to a combination weight of 7.5 tonnes MAM until the driver reaches 21 years, at which time the balance of 12 tonnes MAM entitlement automatically becomes effective.

:S :S whatever that means lol

My mates 18/9 and doing some sort of test for 7.5 tonne and got a lorry sorted out for him, must be some way of it?

yeah so you do the trailer license then 7.5 ton license but the latter only becomes effective when you turn 21.

If you want to drive 7.5ton you might as well go for the 10ton rigid body licence. Its only articulated lorrys licence's that cost mega bucks iirc.

Im looking at upgrade my lienece towards the end of the year so i can get a bigger beaver tail to carry my car to tracks.

Trailer licence? If you passed your driving test before september 2009 you are allowed to drive with a trailer.

7.5 ton + You must be aged 21 +

At 18 you can do the 3.5 ton test, but if you passed your test years ago you will be able to drive them anyway. Not sure what year they stopped it but I know that people my parents age can drive them on their car licence but I can't.

I passed in 05 or 06 and i can only drive upto 3.5ton.

My old man passed years ago obviously and can drive anything upto 7.5ton unless its a tracked vehicle, think it was maybe 15 years ago it changed my sister whos ten years older than me can only drive 3.5 ton too?

unless you passed before 1997 then you can drive up to 7.5 tonne ;) and you only need to be 18 to pass a Class 1 test they lowered it recently.

21 for anythin bigger that Class 1 it 21 ;) iirc

My mates license is full the only thing that he cant do is fly a helicopter or plane and hes only 23.
