Only with my arse
Use to have a little play when I was 12-14ish, use to make backing tracks for grime tunes, realised it was shit.
Start on Fruityloops, its hard to get use to but the beats you can create are immense.

yep I make music do remixes, master peoples tracks for a living :)
software I use
ableton live
cuebase
logic pro
reason 4
fruityloops 9
you need VST with some of them though with regards to reason and ableton you can firewire them together so both programes work in time.
your main object for now is some good monitor speakers & soundcard dont even bother making music until you have those in place.

I've only been doing it about 2 years, making mainly urban music so dubstep, grime, synth pop etc... I find cubase and logic are by far the easiest softwares to use! It's such a buzz when you send you tracks to people and have them vocaled and sung on. Good luck with it! :)

im starting up one after summer im currently signed to a couple of labels.
money is not amazing (as most labels do a 15% rate at the start then it grows over time) I get my money from doing dj gigs & mastering otehr peoples music. aka sound engineering.

Yeah, i make music mate, Personally im a big fan of reason.. although its limited cause it dont suppose Vst instruments. For those i use Cubase. and im a big fan of abelton live's warp function. You can warp some good vocals and chop them and insert them in a DR REX within reason.
Taught myself for a good couple of years then went to college to study sound engineering. My bedrooms almost a studio lol... even tho its not the best in terms of acoustics. It does the job though, Its about persistance, Patience, a good ear and a BIG passion of music. Dont expect to be making the hotest beats within weeks though mate, as i say it takes time to learn the best ways of gettin your tunes as accurate as possible for the mastering studio.
Best thing i ever got was from college, and it was an info sheet on the frequency range's that certain instruments lie. Very useful. Also, Get some monitors to give you a accurate representation of your mix, Hi-fi speakers generally tend to glamourise your music, So it may sound great on them, And diabolical on another system. The idea is if your tune sounds good on monitors theres a good chance it will sound the same on any other system. Good luck mate and i hope it goes well for you. Its a fascinating thing to do and your always learning.

i think cubase 5 is the best by far, the stuff you can do in it is immense, its like photoshop for music, hence why its costs so much. but FL is pretty good once you learn it. i dont usually make dance, r n b, or grime or anything like that,
im in an alternative rock style band and cubase is good for our stuff. i do a hell of a lot of track splitting and putting them with different parts and alot of drum programming for our basic backing tracks, you can play alot with vst's in which some are awesome some not so good, but if you find the right ones there is vst's for everything. i would say get a decent soundcard like a tascam so you dont have any latency issues, and some decent monitors, if you have the cash some KRK R6 or KRK RP8's would be decent

the part of your pc that processes the sound, if you dont know what one is then yours is probably a built in one and will make loads of crackling noises when you are trying to make stuff as well as other issues

you need a firewire soundcard they run faster then external cards running via the usb.
or get the tried and tested cards
M-audio 48/96
thats what I use in both my proudction comps and they do the job well. roughtly £65ish to buy new.

Used to. Really miss it, but am not motivated enough to do it anymore.
I made dnb mainly, using cubase. I spend over a grand on monitors, dynaudio bm6a's - they are badass.
Some tunes I made..

reason is an all in one based product
all instruments are there to tweak and use.
new sounds are in what we call REFILLS which are reason files with more musical instruments in.
they have sice released software called
RECORD
which is basicly reason 4 and a seriously cut dow version of ableton live. working as one bit of software its great for layig vocals onto music :).
with reason you also use some software called RECYCLE basicly what it does is you put any music into it count the beats then save it and it will become a file which reaso can read.
mainly used for converting soud fx and loops.
best SFX package ive used is vengence club sounds 1,2,3.
here is one of y productions coming out this year.
