It's downright inconsiderate that it is considered appropriate not to let candidates know they have been unsuccessful. They go to the effort of getting to you, at a time of your convenience, get all dressed up, willing to work for you - the employer, and you don't even let them know if they aren't successful.

That's not good style imo, I don't like how that's become accepted as reasonable. I don't give two shits about business resources and wastage, a 14 year old can mail merge preset layout 'you've been unsuccessful' emails.

I always find halfords pretty handy for tools and if you get a juicy discount that could be quite handy :y:

Your training will be to watch about 2 videos, one on health and safety and fire stuff, the other on store practices. Although when I worked there never had to do that.
ANd then you have to sign a few bits. You will then be shown how to do stuff, its all fairly simple stuff.

I used to love having the chavs come in and pretend to know about cars and such. Then they would buy pants stuff as opposed to the slightly better stuff because it was too expensive.

Besides from the rep and the relatively pants pay its not too bad a place too work. You can go in and use the tools, get discount on most things. Vouchers for christmas for people make cheap presents.

Congrats on the job.

good stuff mate, congrats :y:

enjoyed my time at halfords, was a good laugh. met some good people, people who i'm still mates with now, few tidy birds working there

i found it best to be honest with customers, they appreciate it. not: "that's crap mate, buy that instead." just lead them towards the genuinely better product. say which you'd buy and why. even better, which you use and why. helps to know your products

staff discount is handy. 15% off everything iirc. make sure you get a trade card aswell. still got mine. gets you loads of money off servicing bits! wipers, filters, etc. some stuff about a third of the original price. remember i got a battery for £25 which should've been £50. oil filter £1 instead of £3

good keeping your eye out for "dead stock" bargains aswell. got a great spec alpine stereo with ipod fullspeed connection for £110 (about 3 years ago) because there was one left in the back cages and none on display so no customers knew about them. also spotted some spax fully adjustable coilovers for a corsa going for £175 brand new. so bought them and sold them a few days later for £300 cash :y:

also got given a top of the range £400 garmin satnav because i sold so many of them lol. sold 13 on a tuesday haha. was only working part time at the time aswell and only full timers were meant to be in the running to get one

worst thing was fitting bulbs and batteries in crap weather but wasn't too bad and wasn't too often. mostly just wiper blades in crap weather which takes 2 mins

halfords gets the reputation for retards because there's little to no training. i was never given any but knew quite a bit before i started. learned a bit working there but just through asking questions. if there's something you don't know, just ask :y:

think that's covered everything lol good luck mate and have fun
