Could not find this anywhere so here goes..

Went to fuel station put £20 in. Went 3 miles down road, stopped for 15 mins and a cuppa, picked friend up, got back in car drove half a mile and as i pressed the accelerator the car started bogging down and cutting out as i pressed the accelerator but if i didnt press it it was fine.

Pulled over and cut out. Started it up ticked over as normal then as soon as i pressed accelerator cut out. Did that about 15 times and now it only ticks over for a second or so or sometimes not at all which suggests a fuel problem to me. At first it it ran fine if i left it on tick over but as soon as pressure applied to accelerator... dies.

Checked fuel lines flow and return, all fine. Fuel pump engages. Used a diagnostics on the sensors to see if they all had signal. All is fine so it suggests to me its a fueling problem. Took air filter off, sprayed pocket rocket and it ran on it ok. (Pocket rocket like easy start but not as dangerous and potent :) Oh changed crank sensor too as i had a spare.

Called AA in the end and got a-framed back home.

Anyone know what i can do from here or what to try as im stumped. Seriously considering selling my 140 horses saxo especially if the git turns out an expensive problem. This is my 5th one and 3rd VTS and they are just way to unreliable.

Help Appreciated Guys/Gals.

Thanks, Princey :drink:

not at al, you got to check. Yes checked the receipt... Super Unleaded. Funnily enough, mrs said guy put it in his car earlier at same garage. 3 hours later saw him broke down and starting his car and evertime he pressed accelerator, cut out.

Don't want to jump to that conclusion though because plenty of other cars that have been there today are fine.

i would be tempted to drain the tank and just try a £5 fresh fuel in mate

you never know and at least if it does turn out to be a bum stear you can still use the draind fuel anyway

i had this on my saxo and it was indeed the crank sensor but you have already tried that

quick update, with many thanks to L20 VTS, have narrowed problem down to fueling. Took fuel pump out, re-connected little plastic thing inside it and seems to be operating as normal however still have the problem with cutting out. Just clamped he return off and the car runs as usual, revs fine, idles fine etc. As soon as you unclamp it, it cuts out.

Technically i could leave this clamped and the car will run fine however what would be the point in the return then? Would this cause any damage to the car long term as i dont fully understand what the return is for then.

Someone who knows what the return is for on the fuel, please let me know.

Cheers guys
