mate you never get 1 company that is the cheapest, i always find the compare sites just give you a ruff idea and always goin to the companys directly give better prices especially if you tell them that youve had a cheaper qoute else where so they try and beat it, im 25 with 3years no claims and all my mods declared with the vts runnin 192bhp and valued at a stupid price and im payin 960 fully comp which i thought was a bargain

If you go to confused.com and your cheapest quote is £££ with elephant. You can go find your quote on elephant and tweek it to make it cheaper anyway. The questions they ask can be worded differently and depending on your answers may lower your quote.

I always do this lol.
I found that last. year Go Compare were cheapest. But this year Money Supermarket were cheapest.
Bit wierd but as the guy says its worth it, even if it saves £30.

Not the best advice, if found out (mileage or mods) you may not be covered at all... not worth it in my opinion.
Also to lower your insurance, try adding a parent as a named driver... as long as your the main policy holder is perfectly legal, also handy if they ever need to borrow your car ;)

Use the price comparison search engines then go to the cheapest comapny directly. The search engines get commision if you take a policy out with a company through the search engine.

How did you manage that then? I went on the Admiral website when my Admiral renewal quote came through and i couldn't get a quote. I got a message telling me i couldn't get a quote online and that i had to ring them.

If they don't ask the current mileage when taking out the policy then surely they have no record/proof of mileage driven in the period of insurance?

The most likely way you will get caught with the mileage is if you have a crash and they suspect something, or even just do routine checks. they will wanna c your mot cert that show the mileage etc, and work out that way. If you are caught your claim will be invalid or they will expect you to pay what it would have cost from the start of the policy with the increased mileage.
I worked as an insurance broker for a while and never come across any checks on any of my clients, so the risk is up to you!!!
On the subject of comparison websites, they make a few assumptions so watch out, check your proposal form thouroughly! Go direct and ask why the comparison website is cheaper than the quote direct and they will outline the difference. The comparison websites can offer cheaper quotes though if they provide enough business to the insurance company

^^^ Nice one bud, interesting to know. As you used to work for a broker, have you any tips etc to bring down the premium?
VTR_Steve

Keep the mileage as low as poss! Have a play with the excess, if your car aint worth shit and you dnt reckon you would ever claims, increase the excess as much as possible. Put a named driver on there who is older with good driving history. Some companies wont look at mileage or xs though. Did a quote for my missus the other day, same premium with 450 as it was with 150! And increased the mileage by 2000 with no change in premium.
postal codes can make a big difference as well, if you have a split family and live at home see which address is cheaper!
if i think of anything else ill chuck it on here

The mileage the car has done is irrelivant, Its how many you do or anyone on your policy does that matters, how can they track that. My mate uses my car, he is a mechanic and has a traders policy, I only do like 3500 miles per year, if my mate does 600 in it im 100 over my limit, so if they checked the way you say id have no insureance but i havnt done over 4000 miles, in short they cant prove mileage, there is no way without watching who is the driver of the car 100% of the time.

thats what i thought, also if ur mot is in sept and says 10kmiles, then u do 9kmiles before january and renew your insurance and say u only do 10k a year, that would mean u can only do 1k in a whole year before your over..
therefore they cant prove it properlly :D

The only way I could see them proving it (so it would stand up in court) is if you had a tracker installed (I think its I-Kube) insureance that make you fit one???) If you were with them they could of cource prove it but i dont know if they do use that to check or not.

its easy to prove the milage now as they proved it when my ek9 was stolen i said i did 6k miles a year but i was doing closer to 9 they proved it as the mot and isurance and tax database is now all computerised and easily acessable. has been for around 2 years now and when they prove your lied they wont pay out and make u fight hard for your money back.

You are a cock, end of
I don't claim to know the ins and outs of insurance but I rather suspect they could compare the last recorded milage of your last MOT with your mileage should you have a crash
For example, you said you did 7k miles a year when you took the policy out.
Your last MOT (6 months ago) said 80k miles bang on
You have a crash 6 months later and your car reads 87k
Sure you have already gone over the 7k you said you had done??
I am not saying they do this now but I suspect there are ways they can find out

if your on a limited mileage policy, they ask your mileage.
but as stated, if some1 else drives your car, as a 3rd party extension, then the mileage will go up, but not as you driving it. so they would have to prove you drove all them miles. and they cant.
there are ways around limited mileage policies.

sometimes they put trackers in
usually its just to find out how much you are ont he road (more liable for crashes)
