You could always use a dictionary and learn how to spell properly. These things happen and she left a number, dry your eyes and go about getting it fixed.

Some woman smashed the back of my work van today whilst I been away on hol. All the brake light smashed, bumper and bodywork scraped. Least she left a note and was helpful when work rang her up, can't fault her. Least they left a note sam won't cost much.

It's a car, it can be fixed. I saw a young boy pulled out of a river the other day after drowning. He won't ever drive a car so the fact your car is scraped is not the end of the world.

That was on the news? Think it was the same one. 13 year old lad? Glasses? Deckland I think his name was.

Not even that much, that's top end of the scale (..which this bodyshop sounds like they are).

Second hand bumper - £40 - £60
Second hand VT arch - £15 - £20

Spraying £100 - £150 sprayed for both.

Those prices are easily achievable.

However, a bodyshop is gonna buy brand new Citroen parts and go down the expensive route :/. If you wanna be a cunt to them though, and they are willing to pay (even if they aren't if you have insurance) - Then go for it I suppose..

yeah i know i cud get it cheaper but im not being funny but it was in near enough mint condition before so id rather hav it brand new tbh! cos seems daft to get it done but not properly yeah 800-1000 does seem pretty steep i am hoping you are right and it is the top end of the scale!

and o great willsy but thanks for the heads up i wss thinking it would b pretty hard to match :(... might just go and rob yellow saxo pauls ;)

Don't forget though, when it comes to bodyshop's you usually get what you pay for. Imo if you want it pukka you have to pay for it.

Seen far too many 'cheap' paintjob's end up going to a second bodyshop due to a poor job.

Seen far too many 'cheap' paintjob's end up going to a second bodyshop due to a poor job.

Paid £40 to get the bonnet on my old R sprayed because of stone chips.

Absolutely perfect condition.

£800 is daylight robbery, don't be a cunt to someone that was actually decent enough to leave you there details after they hit your car. You have no actual proof they did it still, so they could just force you to go through insurance.

Buy second hand parts and get them sprayed, looking at a max. of about £300-400. Then get your one alloy refurbed for £40-50.

Job done.

im not being a cunt :| yeah i know chip am def going to get it done by bodyshop some people are good but id rather pay and have it done properly, if they dont pay out im aware that il have to go through insurance .. 800-1000 is pretty steep though but tbf my car was pretty much perfect outside untill this so as far as im concerned it should look the same as it was before they did the deed...
am so grateful to them for leaving a note though told them when i phoned up so tbh i think im far from being a cunt about it...

For a start Sam, reading through yours and Sarah's comments to each other on facebook, I'd say you being a lesbian was debatable :P

However, a second hand bumper from the scrapyard resprayed would look the same as yours now, will just take time to prep. Colour match will be the difficult bit. Good luck on the fix though.

at the end of the day your car is say 10 years old.. you cant expect it to be perfect so why should it be replaced with a brand new bumper and arch ?

like i said in my earlier post body shops say right is it a insurance quote you need? yes right then itll be £300000000 because they know insurance will pay it.

just be gratful they came forward in the first place if its gunna cost her £1000 to fix your car ide rather pay my £200 excess and pay the £1000 on my insurance renewel next year..

stop whinging either go through insurance or do the decent thing and get a reasonable quote

Plus you go through insurance, a claim against your car of that value will write it off, thus devaluing it further.

ive got a secondhand bumper from mandyslover orignaly from -jason-s car which was like 12 years old, and its been painted and dont think you can tell on my white vtr, and only cost me £30 :) !

You shouldnt have to pay for it yourself???
You either get a quote they are happy to pay themselves, or you go through insirance, im no expert but i dont think you will have to pay your excess or have any effect on your insurance if the other person has accepted liability?

canaryvtr
25th June 2010, 12:31

-Jason-
25th June 2010, 12:45
Tbh you can go through the insurance and you dont have to pay your excess as its not your fault.

You only have to pay excess if someone is claiming against you so tbh insurance is your best bet.

If they write it off you will get the cash for the car and then you can repair it yourself, yes it will reduce the value but will still be quids in

Like nicole kinda said, if someone is genuine enough to take the time to leave their details and not just drive off then dont be an idiot and try charging them £1000+

If you do go ahead and clain through her insurance i hope she denies it, you have no witnesses so she could then walk away without paying anything..

p.s. You will have to pay your excess and then if the other party is found to be at fault you claim it back.

.

Why would you hope for that?

Sad state of affairs when admitting liability is seen as a supreme act of decency.

Leaving a notes the right thing to do nothing more nothing less, end of.

If it were my car i would ask for enough to cover 2nd hand replacement parts and the cost of fitting/painting and a little for my time/inconvenience.

First off let me just say your a cunt.

Secondly if your going through the insurance it doesnt matter how much the bill it it could be 20k they will still only pay their excess.

And thirdly if the accident or claim is not your fault the excess does not have to be paid by you, thats like saying someone smashes into the back of me and I have to pay the first £600 as thats what my excess is it doesnt happen like that.

cus know one is fucking honest these days - they do the right thing by leaving a note with their details and dickheads on here are advising her to take over 1000 pounds off the person for a scraped front bumper.

and it can be mint again for a hell of alot cheaper.. to cause 1000pounds of damage you need more damage then a scraped front bumper.

Exactly.

This is what i'm saying the other driver did the right thing by leaving a note nothing more nothing less.

Most people would have gone straight to the insurance company and not even bothered getting quotes for a cash settlement.

You should tell your insurance company and the police as they could start being funny when you tell them the cost, saying you hit them and allsorts.

Did you personally get the quote sam mate?

Because the insurance will want you to take it to their local accident repair centre to estimate the cost of damage, did this with the van other day.

yes james i have n yea paul i got two quotes now one for 1200 ish n one for 1900 ish am uploadion some pics of quotes onto facebook... the damage tbh looks miniscule! but cos of the extreme quotes ive been given it looks like theres a chance of a right off!
one of the quotes i personally got and the slightly cheaper one the person that did it got hoping for it to be cheaper so that they could pay me cash to avoid hassle because the girls excess is 600 and mine is 550 so easier all round... but theyve now today got there quote and said they cant afford it which is fine so have rang insurance n am waiting to get a call soon about the company coming to look at it and get their own quote.. just hoping theyre not going to be so bloody extreme! they are just completly milking it!
