i put my xbox on gumtree, and recived a message from someone saying there where interested and wanted to buy it ok fair enuff sent them a message back saying ok will you pick it up, then she sent this back:

Hello,

I Appreciate your prompt response towards my Inquiries. And this is to inform you that am pleased and willing to pay the requested price for this item £500. And i must inform you that I'm a very busy person as I work round the clock all day,I'll be making the payment to you Via a Check via my bank for the cost of the item.Due to the nature of my job ,And you can hold on to the Item till the ( Cheque) clears in your bank and after that the Item will be picked up by the shipping company in your disposal.I'll not be available to pick up the item myself, with this, I will be getting in touch with a moving company for the pick up for it on my behalf.... I hope you do understand... So I'll like you to provide me with the following information so as to notify the payment for the item..

1.Full name to be on the check.
2.Home address (The Courier doesn't deliver to P...O Boxes)
3.Phone Number and Cell Phone.

And I will appreciate it if we can relate in total trust and honesty,As i will be sending you an excess payment which will cover the shipping cost but all required of you after receiving the payment is to faithfully deduct the amount for the item then you send the remaining balance to the Movers via Western Union Transfer in cash, then they come for the pick up there after. So i will implore you to remove the website as I'm committed in buying it. Thanks as i await your sincere reply....

Regard.

Yeah it's a scam lol, you can tell by the poor use of English and the fact that the word cheque is in bracets indicated that they use the same paragraph a lot, but just change the word cheque for which ever payment they are using.

Probably some Africans lol

do people really ever actually think this is genuine?

lol

EXPLAINED!!!!!!!!!!

This works by the simple fact that bank transactions can be reversed within 120days of payment being made.

So they make payment with a cloned or stolen card or even a fraudulently setup account. The bank is unlikely to pick up on this for several days so odds are the payment will clear.

But as soon as the bank realises it was a criminal transaction they can legally take the money back off you.

Hence you end up with nothing.

You can always scam the scammers if you know what your doing though ;)

There was a website posted up here not along ago about that.

Really complex stuff, Didn't understand much of it, but looked a good laugh lol

Depends how complicated and how risky you are willing to be. The basic one is take payment and simple send something like a letter saying “ haha I had you”. If your lucky the bank will not realise it was a fraudulent transaction until its to late and you have get the keep the money. Or at the very least there awaiting there item and just never get it. I would love to see there face when there realised they where conned. However its never good these sort of people having your details so really you want to go in to more details sorting out untraceable numbers and address you can use for posting that are not actually yours and such like. Quite often you can get them just to wire the money to you. So you can just grab a charity account that sounds like it could be a individual or such like. It can be as complicated as you like.

I feel sorry for the legitimate trusting Nigerian bankers trying to make an honest living.

Ask him/her for a picture of them with a stupid object sat ontop of their head, like a bottle of beer or something

Thats what that 419 eater site is all about, they lead the scammers on by getting them to pose for photos with ridiculous things or holding up signs saying stuff like 'I am a b***k twat!', and they just copy it down without knowing what it means!

Hilarious

Or even better, email him/her and say you need a picture of them holding up a sign saying "Saxperience Rules", to verify that it is indeed them and you will only deal with them if you know they are genuine!

If you're shit at writing things, PM me and i'll write your reply for you to make it convincing and understandable!

Someone tried to buy my car like this, saying they were an air hostess (even though it was a guy) and wanted to give me the money via paypal without even viewing the car. I told him to stick it, shame if it was real though.
