Not a fan of these tbh, these days they seem more chavvy then saxo's, and have huge running costs.

23rd June 2010, 18:29
..It's a 4WD 2.0l turbo, it's better than a Saxo and it has a badge with "impreza" on the back (that's worth more than a Saxo by itself).
In fact.. just leave if you would rather a Saxo than this. I'm not saying it's the bollocks.. But I'd rather have the reliability, looks, and performance of this over the shitron.
If it wasn't the turbo, I'd understand, they are shit.

would hope it feels faster, safer etc than a saxo but unlike the saxo you'll be visiting the petrol station a fair bit more and have to actually save money before taking it in to get damaged/worn bits changed
Looks very very clean!
I'd be tempted with one of these since the UK Spec one's are a lot cheaper to insure.
What is insurance like for you?
Looks very nice really Jealous.

60.6mph actually!
Gear ratio 1st 3.266 (39.5 mph)

3rd 1.517 (85 mph)
4th 1.212 (106.4 mph)
5th 0.972 (132.7 mph)
6th 0.780 (157.5 mph, at the time of 8000rpm)

Gearing ratios are always good banter.
Take it to the engine section.
When the flag drops the bullshit stops tbh. Can we get back on topic please.
I've been out in a Impreza 2000 Turbo and they are shit quick even standard, what people don't realise is since these are UK spec they are much cheaper to insure.
Take an Impreza Type R for example, I can get insured on one Fully Comp for £2,700. I can get insured on a 2000 Turbo with same circumstances for £2,100 Fully Comp which is pretty good for what you're getting.

Exactly Carter, Next they're going to say that a 2.5 Turbo Focus RS making 300bhp is bad since 2.0 Turbo Evo's make Upwards of 300bhp.

its around 300 BHP with the PPP on!
200 odd is the standard BHP
its too fast, i need to turn it down a bit LOL!
insurance was £180 to switch! till end of sep 2010
saxo insurance was 400 a year, on saxo
changed to an mg mgf about 4 weeks ago cost £80
then to change the mgf to a subaru £180
new quote for the year was £1500
cheers

Problem with the Vtec from what i've read (not had experience may i add) is that you've still got to rev the bollocks off them to get them to actually to feel alive... I imagine the Scooby isn't like that at all.
EDIT: I in no way am saying i wouldn't have a Teg or anything! So don't jump on me lol.
As for the OP's opening post, nice one pal. I'm sure you're happy with it! Keep it clean and look after it :y:

Do you not rev a VTS right to near the redline when you're giving it stick?
Theres no difference in the way you drive them at all, if you are going fast.. You just need to keep it over 6k rpm, and if you are beasting it through every gear, you are never below 6k rpm
Cruise about gently, economy mode...keep it under 6k rpm and you get half decent fuel consumption.. But then if you want to go fast, just rev it higher...simple as that

True this, vts's are gutless below 4k rpm
Peter_D
23rd June 2010, 22:56
It's pretty much the same concept aint it...you drive the car, and at a certain rpm it starts making good power, and with it being 16v, you rev it until near the redline!
But drop below your powerband and it's nothing special, just economy mode really!
People say you need to "learn" how to use VTEC...you don't.. You just need to know where the powerband is, and then drive it, simple as that

Don't know. Never driven a VTS :) But from what i've heard, yes you're right.
I wasn't pulling the Honda's down. I'd love an old skool crx tbh. I know they're rot boxes but i think they can look really smart. I'd guess they can handle pretty well with a decent suspension setup too?
What i was saying though is... how you say the Honda needs to be above 6k... surely with a Scooby you wouldn't? (I'm only guessing).
PS. Also me and Toyah saw a blue DC5 on the way to FCS, decked with some nice wheels and that was lovely.
Peter_D
23rd June 2010, 23:06
Yeah i know you weren't pulling Honda's down, i was just explaining :P
Scoobys powerbands are different, not sure what a Scooby revs to but it's probably not far off 7-7.5krpm, and the power comes in alot lower down in the rev range.. So you don't need to rev it high for power
Cruising along in say 5th gear in the Teg at 70mph, if i put the foot down then VTEC doesn't kick in til 100mph! But at 5th in a Scooby at 70mph, the turbo will come in alot sooner and you have the power there.. But the Teg you would need to drop it to 4th or even 3rd! 4th gear it comes in at 80mph, so if you wanted power instantly you'd have to drop to 3rd, and then rev it to near the limiter, then into 4th!
It's just a different style of driving it, you need to know what gear you're needing for the speed you're doing.. But it's simple once you know
Blue DC5's are ok but i wouldn't have one.. Black and red are nice too, silver is gash, championship white is the puppys penis

For once peter I completly agree with you.
The only thing I feel my car lacks is torque when you plant your foot, thats why i'd love a charger of some sort.
Peter_D
23rd June 2010, 23:16
You've got an EP3 dont you? They do need a bit more kick really.. They're about 100kg heavier than the DC5 and only 197bhp.. But the JDM one is 212bhp and is nearly as light as the Teg..
When the cars light, you don't need torque, just good power really.. Focus ST's need torque as they are nearly 1400kg's!
You really need to get your EP3 to about 220-230bhp and then it'll feel alot quicker!
Charger would be amazing though but the price is nuts!
Just out of curiosity, what have you disagreed with me about before? :P
