Viewing a saxo, what to look for ?

Hi Guys

looking to buy a saxo this weekend and going to view it tonight

what should i look for ?

such as how to check that rear axle is fine ect ?

also can someone tell me basics on what to check and how, such as brake discs ect ?

If in doubt take one some one who knows cars! Mechanic? Or get an RAC check?

check the rear arches (behind the wheel for rust)
check under the car at the front where front arches meet chasis for rust.
wobble the back and front wheels to check for play
make sure the engine doesnt rump lumpy
check coolant and oil cap for mayo (headgasket gone)
check boot under carpet for rust and water
check bottom of slump for oil dripping or running down it.
check drive shafts and wheel make sure no cv gease.
check the clutch for slipping
make sure the steering has no play, no cunces.
make sure no noises with gearbox, go through the gears

Answered in your other thread but check the sunroof for leaks as this is a common fault.

Get the car up to temperature and into all gears making sure it selects each one easily as boxes are crap on saxo's.

Put the car on full lock in both directions while moving slowly and listen for any knock or bangs.

Make sure mileage ties in with paperwork as saxo clocks are easily changed.

Make sure all instrument panel warning lights illuminate and go out as they should.

also make sure your temp guage doesnt decide to go up, anything over halfway isnt too good, especially if your sat in traffic, and yes 2nd post down was very good make sure its solid underneath and engine doesnt tap this is a common problem with saxos aswell

Also check dash board lights e.t.c R.e does the air bag test light come on and then off, exhaust for any holes, squealing from the alternator, if its a VTS do the electric wing mirrors work, central locking, alarm + sensors e.t.c. Look and see how many weights are on the wheels to keep them balanced, this could be an indication of abused wheels or that they may soon be knackerd. Check for any water residue at the bottom of the air vents (centre console area nr heater matrix.
