my contract ends april next year and was calculated £160 which after contacting o2 to cancel mine they wanted £380!

but she missus's contract ends this september so shes getting the upgrade on her account at £40!!

so im off to the o2 shop later on today to upgrade..

also o2 pay monthly customer's get iphone 4g priority.

People on the original 3G or 3GS are running 3.1.3 software.

The iPhone4 comes with 4.0 which will released to 3G and 3GS users so really there aint no difference bar better camera and memory.

EDIT: 4.0 is out now on iTunes for 3GS and 3G users :y:

I can live without a better resolution screen and HD recording anyway.

My iPhone is a 32GB version anyway, only thing that I hated about my iPhone was it always crashing, but iOS4 seems to have sorted it.

£380.. Is it worth selling the 3gs on eBay and paying off the contract? Hmm..

Save your money and upgrade your 3G's and 3Gs's to OS 4

Massive improvement, apart from the lack of being able to easily write words that aren't already in the iPhone dictionary. That sucks

yep and also people need to realise.

the 4g does not work in the uk for video phoe calls. its not even fully working over in the states yet!

only real difference from teh 3gs and 4g is

smaller
better battery life
hd camera
video calls (which most the world still cant use lol)
front and back is made of a special glass they have produced
the antenna is the actual frame work of the home itself made of special steel.
can put apps into folders
slightly better grpahics card

thats basicly about it!
othing really amazing

only real difference from teh 3gs and 4g is

smaller - I thought it was bigger?
better battery life - OS 4 improves battery on 3Gs
hd camera - wow!
video calls (which most the world still cant use lol) - My 3 phone did that in 1998 and I never use it! front and back is made of a special glass they have produced - wow
the antenna is the actual frame work of the home itself made of special steel. - trick, but for what benefit?
can put apps into folders - OS4 can do
slightly better grpahics card - Is the human eye capable of seeing a discernable difference?

smaller - I thought it was bigger?Definately smaller, and thinner

the antenna is the actual frame work of the home itself made of special steel. - trick, but for what benefit?benefit is better internet and carrier signal, it transmits through the metal easier
can put apps into folders - OS4 can do
slightly better grpahics card - Is the human eye capable of seeing a discernable difference?i didnt think id notice the difference but you actually really can.
Even when you zoom right into a picture it doesnt pixelate at all.

if people have to buy out a big contract or will be scrounging to pay a hideously massive monthly bill, id say not worth it...but if your due an upgrade and can afford it its deffo worth it.

EDIT: - That came out all wrong but i think you can get the jist =]

yep craig there slightly smaller and thinner. not by much though mate.
they made the frame of it the antenna to save wieght and so they had room for the bigger battery. battery gives 40% more life.

the graphics chip in the phone is smaller and graphics is better....... best way for me to explain this is like carbon fibre lol

old phone 4x4 weave

new phone 2x2 weave

much smaller pixels which create a smoother look. on edges of words, pictures etc etc.

im not craig...but the s in 3gs stands for speed.
so its generally faster...also records video which 3g doesnt.
cant say i know much more than that.

there is more of a change from 3gs to 4 than there is 3g to 3gs.

I heard something about people taking the pee and 'inproper' use of the internet so carriers have all capped it.
at least to begin with.

Not a fan of the iPhone. I had a 3g and it was ok but unreliable.I tunes is also a pain in the arse. Apple have managed to create a cult of people who think there products are astounding for random features like a glass front?

The technology is nothing new and there are already phones with faster processors and more ram.

go to tesco they seem cheapest 12month contract

Yeah, but they want £229.00 for the phone!!!

Has anybody found the best place to purchase one of these from? Apart from o2 as i'm not a previous customer...

I don't mind a 24 month contract, but don't want to pay alot if anything for the handset itself.. is this near impossible lol?! Think it might be best for me to settle for the 3GS...

Do the maths ,

Add the phone & the line rental together for the contract duration to get a true cost .

£20 a month + £229 = £469

£35 a month for 24 + £39 = £879

Sophie123
24th June 2010, 21:36
Jonathon05 is really pushing the tesco tariff!!

It is a decent one though!

Orange are doing similar deals to o2 so 24mth contracts means very little if any cost for the handset.

The iP4 is clearly better hardware and as app's develop, they will run like a bag of crap on the 3G running OS4, as the processor will lag. Ive found that running some of the newer apps already.

I've got an iP4 arriving tomorrow and another next week hopefully. I compared my 3G to the iP4 in store today and was surprised how much slimmer the new phone is. Bad point though... the new handset feels to angular/square in your hand. Its not as ergonomic as the 3G/3GS, but maybe thats something to get used to :P

Viper
24th June 2010, 22:26
micro sims eh.

or... chop down my current one...

Simo
24th June 2010, 22:37
I was planning to chop down standard sim and get sim-free from apple, until i blagged the voda woman. Chopping down looks straight forward :P

Viper
24th June 2010, 22:43
only reason im not going into another contract is that im on O2 simplicity at the moment. 600 minutes unlimited texts and unlimited internet. £20 a month. dont really want swap from that to a more expensive iPhone tariff.

I'm waiting for the white ones then buying direct from Apple

whats your voda contract?

Simo
24th June 2010, 22:59
Thats what I was planning to do Tom, buy from apple, let me voda contract run out then switch to the voda version of O2's simplicity. It only worked out at like £90 cheaper all-in over 18months, but it gives you an unlocked phone.

When they cancelled my contract, I couldnt resist the upgrade, as Id already shelled out a bundle on the first handset.

I went for a £35/month tariff. 600mins, 3000 texts, 1Gb data, 1Gb Wifi.

Everyone seems to be whining abut the capped data tariffs, but in the 18months Ive had my 3G Ive not even used 3Gb in total from the voda data stream. Im on wifi most places I use, so 1Gb per month is pretty much unlimited anyway for me.

My old tariff was better, but also cost £5 per month more than Ive just upgraded to. Was also considering waiting for the white, but I did that with my current one. I fancy a change - the black one :P

Viper
24th June 2010, 23:03
one advantage with waiting for white is all these problems with early handsets might be solved!

unlimited data is funny actually, because they all have fair usage policies, which im fairly sure is around 1gb anyway. I reckon they might have been forced to change 'unlimited' because it really isnt.

As you said though 1gb is a pretty high cpa anyway so its all good :y:

One thing I dont get with your contract.. how can they limit wifi usage or is it limited from Voda hotspots

Simo
24th June 2010, 23:08
Its BT Openzone stuff... similar to O2 giving you it free for 12 months.

All non-BT/cloud wifi is obviously not capped.

I was a little reluctant to upgrade to the 4.0 software on my 3GS, as people I knew that had done it had all sorts of problems.

In the end.. I stopped being such a poofe and installed it; it has some excellent new features.

Still not sure why they boast a 5x digital zoom, though.

Seriously?! Mine was activated immediately, just phoned up with my number and my sim card number and they done it there and then. I'm with Orange though.

Sophie123
25th June 2010, 11:56
Im with o2.
Had to activate mine online because the number i upgraded isnt the number im using in the phone, so they gave me an extra micro sim to use with my number.
I had a text to confirm they were processing the swap and that it could take 24 hours...27hours on...still nothing!!
