Talking about them in another thread, does anyone get the whole sleeper thing ?

It would put a huge smile on my face beating someone; on a track ;) in a very standard looking car when they have a really nice looking car and be all smug about it.

NMI Clio 172 Cup does the trick with absolutely no mods required, bar the NMI. Looks like a standard Clio with with 16" Turini alloys, no model inscription, no twin exhausts but 2.0 172 BHP engine, lightweight body 34 MPG 140 MPH 0-60 <6.4 secs.

Here's a pic of my old one, NMI means no model inscription, just means you remove the badging from the back - the later RS Clios had different alloys, twin exhausts etc and are easy to spot as 'fast'

It's now running around 235bhp in a stripped EJ9, needless to say it laughs at pretty much most things out there as 600hp evos and scoobs don't get seen too often, in fact nothing has troubled it yet.

Trouble with any fast Corsa's and Nova's is the C20XE conversion is so common these days I certainly wouldn't be surprised if ANY Nova or Corsa devistated me away from the lights, I'd just presume it had an XE or LET in it. Sorry

i have receipts for the engine conversion on my 205 totalling £3.5k for the engine alone, i could buy 3 306 gti-6's for that money!

to go fast you need low weight and big power, and generally higher powered cars are heavier than lower powered cars. so go for the best of both worlds and put a high powered engine in a light car.

the fun you'd have though. i really fancy either a 1.0 corsa b 2ltr 16v/turbo, 1.1 mk3 fiesta 1.6 turbo or mk5 fiesta 1.7 16v frp. all relatively cheap and easy conversions. then just need standard height coilovers, good tyres, bigger brakes and a set of lexus lights

But i do mean shit heap!
-The floor pan has had more work done than jordans tits
- Exhuast is hanging on by one hanger (not just the back box, the whole thing!)
- The previous owner bought it with that engine as has no reciepts for any parts such as suspension, "chipped" ecu , cage etc.
- The rear suspension is gaz set to its hardest setting, and the front are cheap ebay jobbies (can you say lift off oversteer?)
- Standard seats with budget harness's placed on the seat sholders (so they can just drop off the sides of the seat!!!!)
- And to top it off the bloke who did the conversion has put the fuel pump right next to the engine in the bay. So when the car gets hot the pump suffers from vapour lock and cuts out. Meaning he has to stop the car and prime the fuel pump 4 or 5 times before it has enough pressure to fire up again. And this can happen at any point the engine is hot.

But he continues to tell me by french heap is slow and crap, and im not denying his car is very fast but thats only when its running.
Yes mate, total bargain that car (twat).

I agree a well done one would be very nice. I thought his was when he said about the 2.5 v6. But then i found the for sale thread on his forum and saw all that wrong with it. Also the previous owner had driven it 800 miles before deciding to sell up, doesnt say much about it does it.
He's younger than me (he is 19) and says he's insured with everything declared for £1000.
I really thought that wasn't true, so a quick number plate search on the dvla came up with it being registered as a gsi. Lost all respect for him after that, doesn't take much to register the conversion and makes him legal. I have no time for people who do conversions and don't register / insure them properly. (main reason i haven't done an s conversion is i cant get a good insurance quote on it but i can on a gti/vts. Hence me selling up at the end of the year.
