See the odd thread in photo section of the forum with the old school 56k beware thread title warning.
Does it even exist anymore?
Anyone still on dial up.
Remember the days of the 28kbs connection. Freeserve. House phone was always engaged as I was working away on napster!
Used to take days for people to upload photos from meets / events.

Christ I had forgotten about that side of things.
Porn was on image that loaded in about 30secs starting from the top and gradually loading down the page!

Guess for mobile browsing it does still have a role, especially with O2 introducing the new bandwidth limitation.

i always used to get bollocked as no one could ever ring the house phone, and it used to cost something insane like 1p a minute in the daytime but free on evenings and weekends.

Hurray a Thread That I can answer :P
BT Openreach Engineer - Mr Shadow
Yes Dial Up broadband still exists - The Openreach workforce use it on a daily basis, when broadband or 3G isn't a option to get work/ job and network information
Dial up is also the only option for people living in rural area's where the cable capacity is alot lower than that of town /city centres.
After approx 6KM broadband will not be possible or will be below the legal requirement for broadband with is 512kbps (half a meg)
So for those living so far out, dial up is the only option.
Bare in mind that old, lead and aluminium cables also reduce broadband speeds.
Its not unheard of for the Customer at 3km to have a slower speed than that of a customer at 4km.
Distance from exchange + Network health + ISP exchange equipment = Broadband Speed
:D

Shocking isn't it
we still have Dial up in a workshop at the power station, because the contractors use it because the network has aLOT of restrictions,
but bloody slow though :(

Porn was on image that loaded in about 30secs starting from the top and gradually loading down the page!
Nothing worse than clicking on a porn pic back in the day, whipping out your jimmy piper and having a fiddle as her face loads, then you get more and more excited when it loads further and you see the nipples...frantically stumping away in your room until it loads a bit more and you find out it's a shemale! But you still battle on since you've got so far!
JOKE.. :zainy:
My internet used to connect at about 24kbps on a decent day, sometimes as low as 11kbps.. My downloads sat at about a steady 2kbps
Thank god we now have a satellite dish on the side of our house to beam broadband from a space station thing!
