ye? is that all it will need is a little rub down for the paint to grip?
mirrorblanks
24th June 2010, 17:26
best to rub it down abit, quick coat or 2 of primer and then you'll be fine

Hammerite Smooth Finish Aerosol
Hammerite Direct To Rust Metal Paint can be painted directly onto rusty surfaces, and thanks to its special 3 in 1 formula there is no need to use a primer or undercoat - saving you precious time

ye it says that on can but i would recommend you prime it first, helps to stop chipping, which you'll get alot of on wheels

u can;t lacquer hammerite, it reacts cos its all in one spray. can says not to use lacquer before u jump on mirrorblanks.
and yes i did lacquer over hammerite to see and it does react, lifts all the paint off and flakes off

24th June 2010, 18:09
i've lacquered over hammerite and never had any reaction
personally i wouldn't bother with hammerite, i'd go to a paint suppliers and have them make up some cans

i sprayed my steels up using hammerite smooth and i used lacquer and it seamed fine tbh, but i haven't lacquered my borbets which i used red hammerite to do the lip, but that was only for a quick job if i keep the car ill get it done professionally, i used primer with my red dish as i was spraying on to a black wheel the red was way to dark, when i used primer it made the paint brighter

24th June 2010, 19:15
ye i think ill just hamerite them... as said they dont need to look 100% :)
was just guna do like a 1/4 of the wheel so you could only see a full red lip when driving haha!

Hammerite can leave an amazing finish if your confident with using it. The cellulose in aerosol lacqure will react i know first hand how badly so DO NOT lacqure hammerite.

Imo Hammerite Smooth is a t*at to use. To get a nice, glossy smooth finish you have to put on quite thick layer's but it run's far too easily then.
Even Halfords aerosol paint would be better. I use some Hardhat stuff that i get from work and it's much! better than Hammerite Smooth.
