You'll know when the axle is gone because your rear bumper will be on the floor and there won't be any wheels under the car. ;)

Joking aside, it will probably be knocking about like mad and the car won't feel good through corners. looking behind the car you might notice camber pointing the tops of wheels in on a side or both sides.

On flat ground your wheels might look like /-----\ sorta thing

Then goodbye axle unfortunately! IM axles on here are really well respected and can fit you a recondition axle, or deliver if you fancy fitting yourself :)

fitting an axle is a straight forward job mate i did mine on my 306 when i had that...6 bolts under the boot carpet and its on the deck lol...only real frustration is the brake lines cos if the unions on there have been on for years and years you might find they won't come undone without snapping lol so i had to redo the brake lines with copper piping but other than that its quite easy :)

Don't bother trying to fix it. Buy a newly refurbed one... and not a second hand one. Trust me on this. I've got a refurbished one ready in my garage because it's the 4th time i've had to do it.

Second hand axles never seem to last too long because they're just getting to that age where they're all going.
Fixing them wise, you'd more than likely need new stub pins too (where the bearing's slide onto). Once the axle's got some play it start's to wear the stub pin's and eventually knacker's them.

It's an expensive job getting a refurbished one, but if you seriously want an axle that's going to last it's the only option imo.
