View Full Version : i want a Mustang!

Petee

i havnt passed my test yet but i want something that no one else will have, if you know what i mean AND trying to get a classic one so its tax exsempt and low on insurance. Do you think im stupid for wanting one?

i know that being a V8 i will spend the same amount on petrol than on a normal car lol.

If you have incredibly deep pockets, and the knowledge to fix/repair older cars, go for it.

If you say no to either of them, veer well clear.

How expensive are they to buy? Also, what do you define as low insurance, because I'd be very surprised if a V8 mustang, however old is "cheap" for a 17 year old.

23carragold
26th June 2010, 10:13
Money will be your biggest enemy imo. You are a little naive but then again, who hasn't wanted an amazing car for their first? I wanted a Mercedes E class as a friend of mine was selling his 04 one, but even if I had stretched I still would have been out of my depth lol.

All depends on your funds really. As I said, very deep pockets. First time insurance, would be shockingly high. I do not see at all how it would be cheap. You are 17...and a V8 is a V8 whatever the age...

Well if you try and buy one thats in this country its about £20,000 lol but you can get one shipped over from america seens they are like dog shit over there, i havnt actually checked on insurance but my dads classic car is like £200 lol. Better than £2000 on a saxo

iirc its hard to get classic insurance if you are under 25.

0 ncb 0 experience. The insurance is gonna make you sweet love in ways you never thought of. Then there will be petrol, and running costs. this is when an XL lube tube comes in handy:y:

I dont think what you said above is right^^ they are just as popular over there. import costs from america are really bad. your first car being a left hand drive and rear wheel drive, fuel costs, insurance and maintenance. Id buy a saxo forte if i were you.

23carragold
26th June 2010, 10:19
Mr X and Manu are right. Classic car insurance for under 25's...I've never heard of it.

Basically insurance companies would turn you away immediately. 17..with no experience...and a V8??

Not being harsh mate but it I have to say..way out of your league atm.

Beat me to it, was going to say limited mileage.
Also you can get it under 25 as my mate did on a dolomite sprint at uni. Just very difficult to get.

Good luck though, and I hope you can afford everything.
Id personally recommend sticking to something small for a year and then think about something like a mustang.

James has insured his Stag on classic insurance and is under 25. That said being 17 and the fact it has a Mustang badge i'm almost certain any insurance company would laugh at you.

Limited mileage? How limited we talking? I wasn't aware of a small loophole like that, sounds good though.

Although I don't have an interest in classic cars, I can see how this would be useful.

Ive got a 1973 Triumph Stag...had it for 4 years and only just (from my 25th bday) can insure it. Its cheap to insure classics from the age of 25.

Im paying £300......cost an extra £60 because its LHD on a 3.0ltr v8

you set the miles, and you cant go over basically, when you call for the cover you say its on X amount of miles, and in same cases they require MOT cert's/pics

if you have a smash, someone will come look over the car and take note of the miles, anything over your limit and insurance is void!

it very hard to get if your under 25,i spent about a week calling allkinds of companies,no luck

Seems a lot of effort tbh. But I guess people with classic cars tend to only use them on weekends etc, as their toy so it's about right I guess.

I will be doing that with my second car for sure lol.

You also don't build no claims on classic insurance. And somtimes they make you prove you have a second car to use as a daily.

Milage wise they depend between company your looking at a maximum of 6-8k a year if your lucky.

Helpful post, Tbh mate, everyone has a car that they dream of owning, and one day you might own a mustang, but for a first car i think its a little out of reach, but it will make owning one when you're older that much more special.

My point of view, wait til your mid-life crisis

It may depend on the level of cover that you want on the policy as well Chip.....ive had the stag assesed by engineers and got an agreed value on it of £14500.

The policy as well is limited mileage of 3000 a year but with social and business use.

It is possible to get it under 25. For example I saw someone with the old mini got a quote (at 17) of £800 ish.

Last year, I tried to get a quote on a Porsche 924 :D. Think it was 3 grand. Not terrible for a Porsche. lmao. Anyways, also tried on a triumph herald 13/60, can get quoted. Don't have to be 25.

A good classic fastback mustang would set you back over 20k, over 30k if im honest. You wont find a decent old muscle car you can get on classic policy for under 10k, but if thats what you want then go for it.

Im after a ferrari 355, then 911GT3 then ill have a Chevelle SS or Camaro SS to keep forever.

Yup. That said I've only ddone 400 miles this month so a V8 would kind of make sense. Anyhoo

While dreaming is a good idea I would suggest you modify your criteria a little. When I was 18 I would have been in a 2002tii BMW, the insurance was less than on a Fiesta. I went to uni instead. Should hav gone for a year out

il be amazed if you can get insurance. AMAZED!

and dont do the lil trick of put your dad as the main driver and you as an additional, because if you crash the car, it goes down as TPFT not fully comp ;).

also road tax bracket whats it under?

even stuff like tyres might be pricey, what size are they?
