Thought i'd share my weekends exploits with you as I had a lot of fun!
I made the trip down to GTi International on Sunday to enjoy the great weather and nice cars. I knew Revo were going to be there and were doing some special offers. Turns out it was £100 off the RRP of the remap and a free select + box (plugs in to the Diagnostic port and can be used for switching between standard and different fuel quality settings). Since I run mine on V-Power at all times I got the map turned up to full which is around 225BHP (another rolling road session next month). But real world figures are what counts and turns out these cars with no back seats or spare wheel are a bit of a weapon.
Best results of the day was a 5.1seconds to 60 and a standing quarter mile of 13.9. Pretty impressive as that was a better time than some Porches and a Focus RS etc. (I’ll post my time sheet later).
Some of the cars I saw off on the actual strip was an EP3 CTR (about 4 car lengths as we carried on accelerating past the quarter mile end point).
260BHP mk3 Ibiza Cupra
270BHP revo’d mk6 GTi
???BHP K1 Leon Cupra

What do you mean? I bought it??
It was a great day some very very nice machines there! I was 2nd fastest Seat of the day only beaten by the Custom Code Leon (1/4 mile sponsor and remap company) which ran a 4.9 0-60 and 13second dead quarter mile.
My 7-speed DSG box really did help as my car surged forwards when the other car was changing gear.
Only problem now is the extra power is addictive and makes the car very very thirsty :D

In the photo on the left hand side you can just see a mk1 Scirroco. Not sure what running gear or engine it had but it ran a 2.6 0-60 not sure on the quater time but it was insane! Something went pop on the last run though :(
There were some of the new TT/RS's running Revo software causing some serious damage with 0-60's in the 3's and 1/4 times in the 12s!

I just remember someone winning a new seat a while ago on here, didn't mean any offence.
Nice motor and pretty awesome results!

No didn't mean like that just wasn't sure what you meant :D
I'm happy with the results but now I want to chase the 4's! I have no exhaust or induction kit as yet. Blue flame have just developed a very nice looking one (pic below) and forge have some very nice toys in development. The induction kit looks spot and they have a twin cooler essentially two intercoolers (stock and their own on the one system). Tweek the map and should be good for 235ish and some results in the 4's and low 13s :D
Going to take my cupra badge off and put a 1.4 one on there for a laugh!

How much did you pay after speccing it up? What made you choose one of these over a Clio 200? I'm guessing tuning potential? Looks nice and the 7-speed DSG gearbox sounds like fun!

What do you think to this exhaust? Yay or nay? I think it look smart! Fit in the standard exhaust slot.

I've spent £1120 on eibach coilovers and whiteline rear ARB and the remap was £360.
Went for the Boc as it can do 48mpg with ease when drive carefully instead of low 30's, cheaper insurance and tax. It is also VAG group so the quality is great.
Since its got a turbo (and supercharger) its much easier to tune. I'd dread to think how much you'd have to spend on a Clio 200 to get it to do 5.1 0-60. The car handles better than my 106 Gti ever did (something no other car i've ever owned has lived up to)

It was more than a clio 200 but its got quite a lot of kit on it. £17,500
You wont get one for my spec at that price now. VAT has gone up (I ordered at 15%) and there have been two price rises.
Options I went for were:
Xenons
AP Racing 4 Pots
Sat Nav Doc
Auto Dimming Rear View Mirror, Auto Wipers and Reversing Sensors (Convenience Pack)
Comes as Standard With
Cruise Control
Folding Mirrors
AUX in MP3 Head Unit
7-Speed DSG
There are some decent priced 2nd hand ones on AutoTrader. Careful though one is a Cat D and I know what happened to it..

It did cross my mind - if anything goes wrong it's a potential big bill, especially gearbox, depending on the warranty and how the tuning affects it ?

Well the book figure is 180BHP, Mine made 195 standard on the rollers. It’s not like it’s a normal 1.4 engine with all the bits strapped on as an afterthought. The block, pistons, compression ratios everything was designed for boost. It’s only a stage one map so the boost level is not much higher than standard. The DSG is designed to protect the clutch so again that’s not a huge issue and i’m running safe levels or torque (around 300Nm).
VW designed the engine to run up to 280BHP so it’s all good.
I remember a while back watching a 1.4 GT Turbo on the rollers pushing 180BHP, its popped the dip stick straight out the engine it was under so much strain, this is a completely different animal.

My seat dealership is also a revo dealer and they are very confident in revo's ability so no warranty issues.
See the pic I posted above of the white cupra with he blue flame exhaust. That car was provided by Seat UK to Revo as a development car. The badge rt215 stands for “revo tuned 215” and may yet go on sale as a ltd addition car.
The tolerances etc of all the standard components are thoroughly tested to be well within limits of safety and engine/component life. If I run on normal fuel it will be 215BHP with the map adjusted as per the 215rt car in the pic. The reason it makes more power is down to fuel quality and mapping not boost pressure.

i did look at one of these bocenegra but you can only have auto box, with paddle shifts, got alot of bad reviews from that. does it even have tiptronic or just the paddles?
mardon
28th June 2010, 11:49
Paddles and tiptronic. Sport rev high and D changes very early for fuel economy but learns how you drives and adapts to be as smooth as possible.
Funny how the then bad reviews have now all turned to rave reviews (same box) in the polo Gti and the reviews also say to go for the DSG option in the new mk6 Golf GTi and R...
Its all about getting used to it. Its different yes, but kicks ass when your used to it!
Approach a 3rd gear corner in 5th tap the left paddle twice, auto blip of the engine to rev match then boom power out of the apex. Good fun! Its so smooth you can do it mid corner if you wish

Have you had any niggles/problems with the car so far?
mardon
28th June 2010, 18:02
It's been fine other than a problem with an air bag light which was sorted. Can get 500miles to a full tank when careful 45ltr.
The results are up now and I officially came 2nd on the Sunday in the seat catagory. Was faster than most stuff other than the 4WD's. 5 Porches ran and i was quicker to 60 and down the quarter than 4 of them!! Haha

That's the same size tank as a saxo, and you get 500 miles ? How much you get to an average tank, with normal driving with a bit of 'spirited' driving ?
mardon
28th June 2010, 18:06
Normaly 340 to 400. The 500 tank was the most boring drive of my life. Got a vid of the various trip comp readings. I'll upload if you want.
Can a 1.4 saxo do 500miles driven like a granny?

Yeah a clio 200 would be faster round a track standard to standard but not by a huge amount.
