The amp shouldn't be on unless the headunit is on.. check your remote wire is wired correctly.

check that the remote wire on amp goes to the remote output of the headunit, not wired to a permanent live, antenna switch etc.

tap the remote from the amp to the one off the back of the HU that way wont go on unless the HU is on

the remote/REM on amp needs to be connected to a switched live, which is generally taken from the headunit its self. there may also be a remote cable coming from the back of the headunit its self aswell.

Will more than likely be the remote conected to a permanent live, try reading the user manual for your headunit but i can tell you now that its either blue or blue/white wire that it connects to

Id buy a multimeter too just to see if it is a switched 12 volte wire always good to test wires before connecting

i had same at first but it was all wired in correctly, the doofus that mended my SUB basically put a little clip on the + and the REM so it was constantly on, not really something i would expect to look for but there you go!!!
