Wondering about a car's history
i am the 10th owner of my vts seems a hell of alot!
i am the 3rd on my nova... its twice as old!
does it really matter how many owners a car has?
who has the most?
i know my saxo has alot because alot of people on it are local who brought it an could't affored the insurance!
Who's got the most then!

I don't see why it would be a problem if its ben well looked after and you can't find any problems with it.
I was the 6th owner of my 172. But I'm only the 2nd owner of my VTR.

Generally theres three reasons for loads of owners.
1- Hidden problems
2- When nice cars get to around 5-6 years old chavs can afford to buy them but not run them.
3- One of those cars that peope buy for six months to rag.
Reason two is why some m3's are so cheap but they get abused due to bad maintaince

+1.
This is why I cringe when I see a car has had more than 4 owners. I would never touch a car that had more than that. Just doesn't sit right with me, and more so due to the reason's MiniGibbo stated.

If its been well looked after and maintained then i dont see a problem.
It still brings doubts into mind but its like mileage, could buy a car that has 150k+ that performs / looks / feels better than the same car but with 50k!

True.
But the problem with so many owners is, can it be said that every single one of them drove carefully, didn't push it to the limit, serviced it regularly? It's incredibly difficult to say.
A car with far fewer owners generally speaking, will have been kept in much better shape as there is less chance a rotten apple has entered the chain of ownership and spoilt all the hard work the previous owner put in.

Baught my bm on 146k with 6 owners i think. First two where reps of some sort then it hit the 5-6year and went down hill until i got it
Engine was sound when i got it just the paint was battered, puffs a little now under hard acceration but track days wear cars at an umberlivable rate.
Classic exampe of this was there was a red e36 m3 floating around a while ago absolute minter by the advert and pictures 50k a lot of options (bar alcantara seats, but that was because it was a 94)... But it had 14 previous owners. Somthing very funny with that was dirt cheap as well :S

On my first R I was about the 4th and on my current R I'm the ninth.
Sometime when it goes to the garage it can count as a owner cos the DVLA fuck up.

Thats becuase they send off the green slip not the yellow one which is the "trader" slip. Dealer fuck up.

I'm the second owner
I'm the second owner of my S, was the 5th owner of my R.
Technically, I was the 3rd owner, as the two previous owners had changed the registered name during their ownership of the car.

Number of owners is about as useful as number of miles... my car is 20 years old and I'm the 3rd owner, one owner for 17 years, the other for 3... what if the first owner drove it like a twat and didn't maintain it? 17 years of SHIT for it isn't it. Luckily it wasn't. Best way to judge a car is by how it runs at the time, and the condition of the car at the time, and by looking at any documented history carefully...
That's my opinion anyway, I wouldn't set myself rules like not more than X number of owners or miles... Car's like cabriolets tend to have a good few owners, mainly because people buy them for summer use, then move them on when winter comes, and repeat.
I'm the 10th owner of my 1998 VTR :)

i think i'm the 4th or 5th owner of my 1.1
i agree with what people are saying that the number of owners doesn't actually matter that much. a car can have 1 owner but they could not bother looking after the car, whereas you could have a well looked after 9 owner car.
4 previous owners with mine, and its only done 32k. I think 4 is a lot for the miles but there is nothing wrong with it and you can tell its been looked after IMO.
