Basically, i really want to rent a car but im only 17. I was wondering if anyone knows of any companies that will do this, or even let someone else like my dad rent it then put me on the insurance policy?

Pretty positive you have to be 21 everywhere, and even then they usually wont let you have any of the semi decent cars till your 25. I tried looking not long ago.

Surely its cheaper to pay your insurance monthly than it is to pay to rent a car monthly?

I'd have thought this aswell, cos part of the rental costs would be paying the company's insurance to have you on it.

But as others have said, pretty much 0 chance of getting a rental car at 17.

Could it not be possible to put your name on one of your parent's insurance policies as a named driver?

Or even try insuring your car in your own name, and adding your dad as a named driver? The missus had a play with compare sites and put the insurance in my name, with her as an added driver, (she's only got a provisional licence and I've been driving 5 years) and it came cheaper than me being on my own policy outright

get a van :y:

im actually serious!

i was getting quotes of £3000+ on a saxo furio under my own name.
and as a named driver under my mums insurance on her 1.2 corsa.... £2800 !

found out i can get a van, under my dads name and me down as a driver, brings it down to around £1090 for a 1.7 GLS corsa B van.
so im currently looking at small car derived vans :)

If I strip my car and marker pen the rear windows does it count as a van?

i wish it did lol.
seats in the back of a van make it go up to like £3000 again, even though its still registered as a van :S but if you take the seats out of a car and stuff it doesnt make it a van :( else id have a saxo one right about now :afro:

Yea, that's generally what happens when people can't be arsed to get off the computer and face/phone real people for a quote.

i did phone around and on the internet and it is pretty hard for me to insure a 1.1 saxo, over 3k but in the end my mum owns the car and i am a named driver, good luck mate at finding insurance !

Do you live in Baghdad?

What variables are you using? (information, details etc).

Postcodes are set into Bands. Low, medium, High Risk.

Im in a high risk area, which yes increased my insurance by a few hundred but not to the extent of £4,000. It doesnt matter if the high risk area is in Southampton or Scunthorpe, the price is the same.

Try Quick fit insurance I found them good. Under £900 for Saxo SX 1.1 / Megane coupe 1.6, mum on policy, high risk area, 1st car, 10,000miles use. If I wanted my own policy on the Saxo I think the cheapest I could find was about £2,400. Which is still considerably cheaper than £4,000.

Tesco compare is good too.

Confused.com - All of their quotes from loads of different companies where over £4k.

Just. Shop. Around.

I found my insurance that I'm with now in the booklet I got when I passed my test.

Kwik fit wanted £5000 to insure me, but then I rang admiral and they insured me for £400 fc.

Internet is crap. Speak to real people they are able to realise when a silly mistake has been made.
