I'd like to know why so many youngsters wanna make their 1.1 etc look like VTR/S's? Surely when someone finds out that theyre not really the car intended, wont they feel total wallys? I got a 1.1 & a VTR but would never think of doing the 1.1 up like that. Wouldnt someone be better upgrading to the car they want,or wait a while

Some people cannot afford to buy/insure a VTR/S, so do the next best thing, make it look like one.

Only way people would essentially "find out" that you don't own a VTR/S is if you raced against people on the street. Which is a dick head thing to do.
The VTR/S's look better aesthetically than the 1.1's anyway which is a given.

Cant afford the VTR initially perhaps? Insurance costs?! The thought of there being better cars out there than a VTR?

There's nothing new here, they used to do this sort of thing with the old Escorts, to make them look like the XR3i. If you would like to go back to the 196 0's they done the same thing with the mk1,mk2,mk3 Ford Cortinas, even Corsairs to make them look like a Lotus, GT, etc. They even used to jazz up the Ford Anglia (made from 1959-1969) with stripes, big bore exhausts, you name it! Standard Minis would have the same, with 'straight through' Peco exhausts, re-worked heads, and so on! Strange how history has a habit of repeating itself.........;)

I'd have thought it's because some people prefer styling over speed :\ Insure a 1.1 cheap, get decent economy, and make it look decent...
I don't get why the majority of people on here are speed police, yet get performance mods and don't really do track days or race, what's the point? To get to 30 quicker? :|

There are other ways. Look for rear drum brakes, 3 studs, exhaust height etc. Plenty ways to see if it's areal one or not.
I saw a kind the other day with a 1.1. VT kit, pearlescent purple/green paint job... And VTS badges. I spotted the fakery from a distance, he had the ride height of a 1.1. Then drum brakes, 3 studs again, bad fitting etc.
No point in racing that kind of kid to find out what car he's got, since they all always make the drool face when they see a real VT.

I'm selling my 1.1 and said I would throw in the vt bodykit, told my mate who's buying it that it adds 50 brake making it vtr/s quick!
